Obituary of Margaret A. Scott
Scott, Margaret Ann (nee McCarthy). July 29, 1954 – February 3, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Margaret, “Marg”, Scott share that she passed away at her home in Vineland, Ontario on February 3, 2024.
Born in Val d’Or Quebec, Marg was the youngest of five children to Percy Joseph McCarthy and Elsie Ann McCarthy. She is predeceased by her husband, Douglas Walter Scott, and survived by her children Colin Stephen Peet (partner Sam Robbie), daughter Chelsea Bronwyn Noel Peet (spouse Cory Knight and children Calen and Ceanna Knight), as well as her siblings Peter McCarthy, Brian McCarthy (spouse Leanne McCarthy) and Beth Rex.
Marg was most proud of her children, whom she considered the light of her life. She loved to entertain and cook for friends and guests, be it two or 22, and made all feel welcome – she was an incredible host and amazing chef.
Marg had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to laugh – a joyful sound that could be heard in the next room. She also loved being around interesting people and traveling with her faithful four-legged dog Teddy. Together, they flew on well over 100 flights, with their annual treks to Florida and summer visits to Quebec with family among the many highlights. She loved gardening and butterflies, all types of music – especially jazz – but would happily admit she couldn’t sing a note. She was a voracious reader, life-long learner, and was incredibly thoughtful – sharing little gifts or care packages with her loved ones “just because”. Marg was also a strong, independent woman with perseverance like no other, and when on task was like a heat-seeking missile. She was fondly dubbed “the little general” by her family and close friends.
Margaret was a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, and also received certifications as a hotel administrator (Concordia College), chef (Cordon Bleu London), and mediator in conflict resolution. Her career spanned over 40 years in tourism, hotel management, community and economic development, education, finance, and human resource management, as well as labour market research and regional workforce development. She was a dedicated community builder across northwestern Ontario and believed strongly in giving back to her community. She provided leadership on many boards, associations and councils over the years.
She was blessed over her lifetime to be surrounded by so many loving family and friends, and was so excited to more recently become a grandparent. She will be dearly missed and will be remembered with love by those who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held at Sargent and Son (21 Court St. N, Thunder Bay, Ontario, P7A4T4) on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 11:00AM. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Thunder Bay Humane Society.
