Rowbotham (nee Lightheart), Margaret Adella passed away peacefully at Creedan Valley Care Community in Creemore on Sunday December 17, 2023, at the age of 89.
Born on August 27, 1934, Margaret was a daughter of the late Lewis and Mildred Lightheart of Dunedin.
With our hearts full of love and gratitude, we say goodbye to our beloved Margaret. She passed peacefully into God‘s arms with family by her side. She loved music and found joy near the end of her life listening to it. Her faith was always evident, she led by example of how to love, how to be patient and how to be kind.
Margaret was the beloved wife of Keith Rowbotham for over 68 years. She was the loving mother of the late Maxine Armagost (Ken Schutz), Myrna (John) Downer, Norman Rowbotham, Neil Rowbotham, Jane Rowbotham, and Andrew (Deborah) Rowbotham. Cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren and great grandmother of 15. Her family was her number one priority and spending time with them brought her much joy. She said, “I can’t think of a better way to spend a lifetime than to raise a family.”
She is survived by her brother Ron (Cathy) Lightheart of Collingwood. She will be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
Margaret was a proud daughter. Her father Lewis had built their beautiful family home in Dunedin with his own two hands. She loved her Dunedin Home and spoke often of her memories there before her dementia worsened. Her parents also went on to build cottages in Wasaga Beach and Little Lake Kennisis near Haliburton, places her own children and grandchildren would later go on to enjoy and love as well.
Margaret had the opportunity to pursue a career in teaching. Her absolute love of children was part of her true teacher’s heart, she excelled in her profession because of this. Her family has often heard stories from former pupils and their families of Margaret’s fine teaching methods.
After she and Keith wed, they began to build their own family home in Creemore on the Mad River. She named their property River’s Bend, which was such a wonderful place to raise her family, a place that she and Keith kept so beautiful. They went on to raise six children there together.
Margaret truly was a woman of remarkable talents- teaching, cooking, gardening, singing, dancing, knitting, mending, toy-making, journaling, and loving. Her character, integrity, and generosity were unmatched, she was a true lady who left an impact on all those who knew her. She was known for her bright smile and kind ways. She will be missed but never forgotten.
We celebrate all the wisdom and beauty she brought to our lives, and trust God to look after her now. Some of the last written words her daughter Myrna recorded from her mother were, “Love then. Love now. Love forever.” That says it all. Till we meet again dear one- all our love.

The Rowbotham’s and Lightheart’s
Funeral service will be held at Fawcett Funeral Home – Creemore on Wednesday December 27, 2023, at 1 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Spring interment at Creemore Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to Creemore Union Cemetery or a charity of choice.
