Margaret Rose Michelin (Fitzpatrick)
February 2, 1948-October 25, 2023
Margaret Rose Michelin passed peacefully into the gates of Heaven on October 25, 2023. Margie was met by her loving husband Raymond, her parents Mike and Lillian, father-in-law George, brothers Jim, Jerry and Mike, nephews Eddie and Jimmy, sisters in law Joan, Blanche and Annette, brothers in law Don, Jerry and Bob, cousin Johnny, her life long friend and confidante Ron (Veronica), friends/extended family Rosemary Lambe and Bill and Shirley Smith.Left to mourn and will be forever missed by her daughters Shelley Rae, Arlene and Randene, sons in law Cliff, Glennie and Marty, her pride and joy grandchildren Georgia, Maggie, Adam(Stephanie), Melissa(Ava) and great-granddaughter Sarah. Her grandfurbabies will miss the endless supply of treats and kisses bestowed upon them.
Over the course of her 75 years Margaret Rose was known by many names; Margaret to her parents, Maggie to her siblings, Margie to her friends and co-workers, Ms. Fitzpatrick to her students which then became Mrs. Michelin after her marriage to Raymond in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador on August 9, 1969. With the birth of her three daughters’ ‘Mom’ became the favorite and most common name she went by. That is until the birth of her grandchildren then Nanny Margie became the most cherished name to be called. Time with her grandchildren brought mom immeasurable joy and she loved every minute that she spent playing, sharing stories, singing and going on adventures. These treasured times will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren.
Margie was blessed to have 12 siblings and upon her marriage to Raymond the family expanded by 10 more brothers/sisters on the Michelin side. Family played an important role in Margie’s life and she passed that on to her daughters. There were summer visits to her home of Bell Island along with many memorable trips to Ontario, New York, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. As time passed Shelley Rae, Arlene and Randene made those same trips with their own families. Mom loved to hear our stories of time spent with family especially when they included the colorful language used during the card games- bang, pass the ace, Newfie bingo were her favorites. Her bragging about her fat bang bag and chant of ‘moola, moola, moola’ when she won will long live in our memories.
Margie will be missed by her siblings Mary, Ed(Marilyn), Leo(Betty), Thomas(Dale), Billy, Kevin(Carol), Brian(Val), Wayne(Jean), Lilly(Magdi) as well as her Michelin family Marguerite, Howard(Helen), Richard(Carolyn), Ethel, Bertha, Reggie(Joann), Bernie, Norma, Stewart and June.
The number of nieces and nephews from the Fitzpatrick and Michelin families would be impossible to list and they all know how much their Aunt Marg loved them. Mom had a deep love for her family; every visit and phone call ended with love you and be safe.
Mom would proudly let us know when she reconnected with long lost friends and family on Facebook. These discoveries would lead to reminiscing and stories of youthful shenanigans such as running from the fairies in the meadow, dances she attended, the relentless teasing by her brothers, swimming in the west dam and berry picking at her Aunt Liz Peters. Margie had a special relationship with her Peters cousins on Bell Island. Johnny and Billy have always had a special place in mom’s heart as they do for Shelley Rae, Arlene and Randene.
Margie has left a legacy not only through her children but through the students she taught over her 35 year career. While her daughters were her babies, her students were her children and we were all blessed to have her in our lives. Her immense capacity to share her knowledge through teaching has influenced many. To this day mom would get messages from former students thanking her for her educational and personal guidance.
While we are heartbroken that Mom has passed, we will celebrate her life- we will cherish every laugh, every story, every fabulous outfit, every hug, every kiss and every I Love You.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at GB Cross Hospital. Our mom was in the best hands and her Care Team went above and beyond. We cannot begin to express how thankful we were for mom to be in their care; their compassion will not be forgotten.
Shelley Rae, Arlene and Randene would like to give special thanks to Mom’s sisters, our Aunt Mary and Aunt Lilly, who returned to NL to be with us during mom’s final days. Mom was able to spend quality time with her sisters who held a special place in her heart. You are both a true testament to what family stands for.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place from the Central United Church, Elliott’s Cove, Random Island at a time to be announced.
Donations can be made in Margie’s name to the Random West Volunteer Fire Department. Both Margie and Ray were supporters of the fire department and believed in the importance of volunteering for their community. Donations can be made via email to Fire Chief Phillips at Lloyd.nl@gmail.com
