Passed away peacefully at the Heritage Life Personal Care Home in Niverville, MB, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the age of 100 years, Margaret Mary “Peggy” Jones (nee Styan), formerly of Glenboro, MB.
Peggy was born September 9, 1923 to Ernest & Connie (nee Briggs) Styan on the farm at Sw4-7-15W, south of Stockton. The family farmed at various locations in the area until settling in 1937 on the Styan farm at SE9-7-15W. Peggy went to school in Stockton, attended dances & learned to sew which became a lifelong hobby.
In 1945 Peggy’s dad passed away & in 1949 she her Mom moved to Glenboro where Peggy worked at Frederickson’s store. That same year Peggy met Evan Jones at a dance & they married on September 15, 1951. In 1954 Peggy & Evan purchased the Styan farm & they settled there. Peggy had returned to her childhood home along with her new husband & her Mom ,Connie. They farmed & raised 2 children there until retiring to Glenboro in 1978.
Peggy kept busy knitting, crocheting, sewing & quilting as well as tending the vegetable garden. Peggy loved to grow gladiolus & always had a row of them in the garden. She & Evan enjoyed playing Bingo in the surrounding area. They also loved to travel & went on numerous trips including England, Las Vegas, Maritimes, Alaska & many excursions to Saskatchewan, Alberta & Manitoba in their camper van.
In 2006 Peggy & Evan downsized & moved to Spirit Sands Complex. After Evan’s passing in 2008 Peggy continued to reside there until her failing eyesight & persistent vertigo made it necessary to move into long term care. In order to be closer to family she made the difficult decision to leave Glenboro & in 2018 she moved into Heritage Life Personal Care home at Niverville Manitoba.
Peggy was a kind, thoughtful & generous soul who loved spending time with family especially her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. She will be missed. Rest in Peace Mom.
The family would like to extend thanks to all the staff at Heritage Life Personal Care Home for the kind & compassionate care they gave Mom over the last 5 years.
Peggy leaves to mourn her passing her two children, son Brian (Donna) Jones of Winnipeg, MB, daughter Brenda (Orest) Kischuk of Lorette, MB, grandchildren Amanda (Rob), Jessica (Kendra), Jarrod (Melanie) & Brent (Pauline); great grandchildren Owen, Élise, Hannah, Sophie, Cecilia and Parker; sisters-in-law Marjorie (Murray) Sutherland of Winnipeg, MB as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband Evan in 2008, parents Ernest & Connie Styan, great grandson Luke & just recently by sister-in-law Vera Skayman.
A Celebration of Peggy’s life will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the Willmor Chapel, Glenboro, MB, with Sharon Hamilton officiating. Interment to follow in the Glenboro Cemetery. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the C.E. Building. Everyone is welcome.
