On September 25th a beautiful, loving, indomitable spirit left us. The loss of Margaret Findlay (Barnes) Ogilvie will leave a gaping hole in all of our lives. Although she was small in size, she had a very big presence. She lived her life with intensity, vitality and verve. Her voice and the sound of her laughter will echo through all of us for years to come. She held her family together with boundless love, vibrant energy, humour, and the best pies and scones in the world.
Her strong will and determination led her to a PhD earned while balancing work and always prioritizing her family.
She loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her family. To her children and grandchildren she was a wonder, an inspiring role model, and a source of exuberant joy and warm hugs. She will forever be remembered by her beloved grandchildren and live on through them.
All of us will miss her terribly, but we can share memories together and bring her back into our lives as we go on without her. She will journey on knowing that she will always be loved and that she made a difference in so many lives.
The last week of her life was very difficult but in some ways beautiful too. She was cared for in the best possible way, and surrounded by those she loved and who loved her. Margaret died as she had lived, with courage, dignity, grace and resolve. She has left behind her a great legacy. She impacted everyone she encountered. She had a meaningful career, helping so many to realize their potential, she created homes and a garden of great beauty, she was instrumental in the creation and maintenance of the wonderful hospice where her life ended.
Margaret is survived by Bob, her beloved partner of 59 years, their three children Shirley-Anne (Rick), Jennifer (Kevin) and Jonathan (Cora). She was a legendary grandmother (Nana and GG) to Amelie, Ava, James, Jason (Terri), Kristin (Kevin), Victoria and great grandmother to Aaron, Annie, Aylen, Haley, Hannah, Keane, Owen and Razia. Her sister Kathleen (Joseph) and nieces and nephews Erica (George), Reg (Ruth Ann), Kathleen (Curt), and Ingrid have been wonderfully supportive recently and forever.
Professional arrangements entrusted to Renfrew County Cremation Service. No formal services will be held at this time. Her family will gather for a celebration of Margaret’s life next summer at Aylen Lake, where a hunt camp, turned cottage, turned family home has connected the family for generations and where beautiful family memories have been made for over a century. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care through the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation, in Barry’s Bay, ON.
