Margaret Mary Chittick
1935-2023
Margaret Mary (Munroe)
Chittick, passed away peacefully in the Dartmouth General Hospital
surrounded by family on October 26, 2023 at the age of 88. Margaret
was born at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow on February 13, 1935.
She was the youngest daughter of Cleveland and Sarah (Kennedy) Munroe.
She grew up on a farm in Egerton, attending school both there and in
Telford. Margaret attended New Glasgow High but by the time she
reached grade 12, she switched to the recently completed East Pictou
High School where she was a member of the first graduating class.
Margaret attended Normal College in Truro to become a teacher. After
graduating she taught school in Greenwood, Salt Springs in Pictou
County, Sheet Harbour and finally Dartmouth. Margaret married Robert
«Dick» Anson Chittick from Sheet Harbour on March
12, 1960. She eventually left her teaching career to become a
full-time mother to her two sons, Robert Cleveland and Jeffrey Donald
Chittick. Both Margaret and Dick were very active in St. James United
Church where she worked as a librarian for many years. Margaret will
be dearly missed by her husband, Robert «Dick»
Chittick; her sons, Robert and Jeffrey Chittick; Robert’s
children, Zack (Lindsey) and Kieran Chittick; twin
great-grandchildren, Ben and Sam; Jeffrey’s adopted
children, RJ and Spencer Frizzell Chittick and many nieces and
nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Janet
(Stanley) Hingley, Maude (Harold) Smith and Katie (Elliot) Brennen;
brothers, James, in infancy and John (Wilda) Munroe and
daughter-in-law, Nancy Chittick. A special thank you to all of the
doctors and nurses who assisted with her care. Your professionalism,
kindness and compassion during this difficult time will never be
forgotten. Margaret would say «you were her earth
angels». In keeping with Margaret’s wishes,
cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A memorial
service, followed by a gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m. on
Wednesday, November 1, 2023 in the St. James United Church, Dartmouth,
Reverend Catherine MacDonald officiating. Burial will be held at a
later date in the Sheet Harbour Cemetery. Donations in memory may be
made to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been
