HUTCHISON (née Baxter), Margaret (affectionately known as Matt) –
Peacefully in Mississauga, Ontario on Friday April 14, 2023, aged 92.
Beloved wife of Leslie for 55 years. Loving Mum of David and Sara-Lynn and Step-Mum of Denise (Don). Cherished Nana of Kate-Lynn and Cal and Step-Nana of Stacey (Sean) and Katie. Step-Great-Nana of Ethan. Aunt of Chris, Anna, Kate (Dave), Andrew (Sandra), Nancy, and Janice (Grant). Life-long friend to Janet (Owen), Grant (Beth), Lisa, Michelle (Paul), Paul (Eva), Tanya, Helen and their families. Always happy to visit with Misty, her family’s puppy.
Margaret is predeceased by her parents Kate Mobbs and Frederick Baxter and her seven older siblings: Ivy, Roy, Russ, Lewis, Ivan, Connie, and Doreen.
Margaret was born on October 2, 1930. She was raised in Lowestoft, Suffolk, United Kingdom. Margaret survived the Blitz as a child, living for several years in air raid shelters. Following World War II, she trained in midwifery before earning her nursing license. Margaret emigrated to Canada in 1954 where she worked in a number of Toronto area hospitals until her retirement in 1996.
Margaret loved annual camping trips with her family plus travels to the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and other countries where she forged lifelong friendships. Family and friends looked forward to Margaret and Leslie’s annual summer barbecues and New Year’s parties. In her later years, Margaret enjoyed monthly breakfast outings with her retired nursing colleagues. She was a proud member of the Let There Be Music Choir. An avid reader of biographies, Margaret enjoyed discussions and debates about social and political issues. Margaret’s sense of humour and passion for life were an inspiration to family and friends alike.
The family extend a special thank you to the staff at Credit Valley Hospital for their compassionate end-of-life care.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Margaret Hutchison’s name.
