Margaret Eileen «Peggy» Shortliffe – 98,
Truro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the home
of her daughter in Bridgewater. Born in New Glasgow, she was a
daughter of the late Harold and Christina (MacKinnon)
Connell.
Peggy was a member of Bridgewater Baptist Church and while
living in Truro since the 1980s, she attended Immanuel Baptist Church.
A true homemaker, she enjoyed babysitting, baking, reading and
crocheting; she also enjoyed travelling within Canada, United States
and beyond. She was the matriarch of our family who will be dearly
missed by her children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her children, Harold Shortliffe,
Dartmouth; Margie Cole, Bridgewater; David Shortliffe (Wendy Ellis),
Bridgewater; Nancy (Thomas) Garven, Bridgewater; brother, Edwin
Connell, Jacksonville, Florida; ten grandchildren; several great
grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Ivan Avery Shortliffe; daughter, Ruth (Gordon) Brewer; sons-in-law,
Gary Cooper, Timothy Cole; granddaughters, Tanya Shortliffe, Christina
«Chrissy» Brewer; brothers, Sandy (Theresa) Connell. Jack
(Lillian) Connell; sister-in-law, Lala Connell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service
will be held 2 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2024, Reverend Norman Pearce
officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Brookside Cemetery,
Bridgewater. If so desired, donations in Peggy’s memory to
Lung Association of Nova Scotia or charity of choice are welcomed.
