Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Margaret AuCoin announces her peaceful passing on December 17, 2024 with family by her side at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital at the age of 96 years.
Margaret Celestine was born March 26, 1928 to Annie (nee MacNeil) and Stanislaus St Croix. Margaret lived most of her years in Coal Brook, Newfoundland with the love of her life, Hughie. Over those years, she enjoyed knitting, darts, reading, dancing, puzzles, making beaded bracelets, camping and hosting many family gatherings. She loved birds, flowers and her cat, Twitter.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Hugh AuCoin, her siblings Lizzie, Frank, Peter, Nicholas and Joseph, infant daughter, as well as grandchildren Michael Gallant, Baby Miranda AuCoin, and Baby Charles Hilliard.
She leaves behind her brothers Fintan and Gareth, children: Larry AuCoin, Madonna (Michael) Gallant, Eugene (Julia) AuCoin, Joan (Alley) Gallant, Frances (Charlie) Hilliard, Regina (Charles) Downey, Susan Pike, Stanley (Barb) AuCoin, Todd AuCoin, Barry (Mary) AuCoin, and Claude (Denise) AuCoin with fond and loving memories.
Her grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as Mammy; Roxanne, Jamie, Bonita, Shannon, Derek, Melissa, Peter, Shelene, Jody, Sherman, Melanie, Tracy, Lydia, Douglas, Jonathon, Glen, Patrick, and Brad as well as 28 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren plus many more family and friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at the Stephenville hospital, Crosswinds Seniors Resort and East Haven Funeral home for their exceptional care, as well as to her care workers when she lived at home.
Family and friends will be received at St Sylvester’s Church on December 20th from 2-4 and 6-8 with service at 630. The funeral will be December 21st at 1:30 pm with Father Prakash officiating. Interment to follow at St Sylvester’s cemetary. Flowers accepted or donations in Margaret’s memory can be made to Crohns and Colitis Canada.
