Margaret Beeler
July 27, 1931 – August 25, 2023
Margaret, age 92, passed away peacefully at Willow Lodge on August 25, 2023.
Born on the family farm in Brule, NS to J. Arthur and Nellie Malcolm, she was the third of four sisters. She attended the local one room schoolhouse and moved to Truro for high school, where she later met and married Donald Beeler from Upper Canard, NS. Together they moved to West Lafayette, Indiana and then to Madison, Wisconsin so that he could complete his education. After he received an appointment in the biochemistry department at Albany Medical College, they settled and raised their family in East Greenbush, New York where they lived for 50 years. For 20 of those years, Margaret worked in administration at Columbia High School in East Greenbush. Ten years ago, they returned home to Nova Scotia to the cottage they had built on the farm in Brule.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years; her four children, Anne Margaret Thomas (Jerry Sunderland) of Tatamagouche, NS, Mary Beeler of Cortland, NY, Malcolm Beeler of Portland, CT and Cindy Klemczyk (Chris) of Bothell, WA; five grandchildren, Marshall Thomas, Margaret ‘Meg’ Dahn (Jackson), David Chung, Sarah Margaret Klemczyk and Ava Beeler; and one great-grandchild, Fiona Margaret Dahn. She is predeceased by her parents, her older sisters Betty Campbell and Catherine Brimicombe of Truro, NS, and her younger sister Jean Gilchrist of Salmon River, NS.
She was an avid reader, and a music and art lover. With Don, she enjoyed many adventures across North America and in Italy, France, Scotland and Hong Kong. Her kind nature, curiosity, intelligence, and good humor meant she was great company and she made good friends wherever she went. She will be dearly missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Willow Lodge, the VON homecare providers and Dr. Dan MacDonald for the care and support they gave Margaret and us over the last several years.
A celebration of life will be held later.
