Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, Marcel LeMoal of High River, Alberta passed away at the Mayfair Care Centre on May 24, 2024 at the age of 86 years. Marcel is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol; sons Kevin (Leslie), Cliff (Dianne), Doug (Wendy) and Mark (Lisa); grandchildren and great grandchildren: Kyllo (Simon) St-Onge and their children Darius, Damien and Isaac, Kale (Brianna), Heather, Ashley (Tyrell) Harder and their children Khyrin and Josiah, Rylan (Keisha) and their children Elijah and Noah and Cyan, Chase, Kade, Cove; and sister Marguerite Smith of Seattle, Washington. He was predeceased by his baby daughter Kimberly Dawn at birth; brothers John and Ernest; sister-in-law Laura, and brother-in-law Joseph Smith.
Marcel was the youngest of four children born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to Alain and Albertine (Bertha) LeMoal and grew up on the family homestead in the White Star area. He married Carol Leask of Prince Albert on September 3, 1960. In Marcel’s own words “Our first place of residence was at Squaw Rapids on the North Saskatchewan River. The company was involved with building a hydroelectric dam. It was a “mobile home” and it was mobile, in every sense of the word because we moved, moved, moved and moved some more, at times with just a few hours notice. We continued to move as the company directed until finally our family of three boys made settling down a priority. It was High River, Alberta in 1970.
Lucky for me a good job came along with an industrial construction firm in Calgary A short time later I upgraded to a heavy duty mechanic” and became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955. A fourth son, Mark, completed the LeMoal family and the days of raising four boys kept them very busy.
In retirement, Marcel was a master wood maker and Carol would finish the projects by adding the painting details. Together, they even sold some of their projects at the High River Farmer’s Market but that took much joy out of the work and details so instead they focused on making family heirlooms.
Known to many as a kind and gentle man, Marcel loved sharing his family history and was always eager to share stories from throughout his life, especially growing up in rural Saskatchewan. He was a man who loved Christmas but hated the fact that he had to have turkey for the Christmas meal as they had raised turkeys and chickens on their farm and he would tell you that he had too many meals from this source.
Marcel was smitten with becoming a Grandpa and when his grandchildren needed anything, he was there to help. From grandparenting during summer holidays, to rides to school, to camping, to passing along his woodwork and mechanic skills, he was always happiest just spending time with his family. He was very proud of his family as his grandchildren and great-children arrived knowing the LeMoal heritage would live on.
Memorial Donations can be made in Marcel’s name to the Wildrose Community Connections, High River, Alberta (www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/m/57479?v2=true).
A Celebration of Marcel’s Life will be held at the High River Anglican Church on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Following the service, there will be time for refreshments and fellowship in the church hall.
