It is with great sadness that the family of Manuel Braga Figueiredo announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Manuel’s family was the foundation of his life, and he took profound pride in them. Manuel was devoted to his loving wife of 65 years, Ermelinda. He had an enduring bond with his children and his six grandsons and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by his children, Jose (Lilia), Ida (Hayward), Luis (Anah) and Nelson (Matilda). His six grandsons, Michael, David (Danielle), Ryan, Mitchell (Mya), Gordon (Sarah) and Nathan who will forever miss their Avo, having grown up together under his loving care.
Manuel was predeceased by his parents, Manuel Pedro Figueiredo (1970) and Ana Soares Braga (1990), his brothers, Antonio, Jose (late Gloria), Joao (Rosa), Angelo (Maria do Carmo) and his sister, Maria (late Manuel). He will be missed by his brothers, Evaristo (Fatima), Jaime (late Livramento), Bernardino (Eliza) and his sister, Ines (Manuel). Manuel will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, too many to count and friends.
Manuel was born and raised in Santa Maria, Azores and immigrated to Canada in 1961. He was employed as a welder with Wean McKay, which later became Wean United, until his retirement at age 62. His greatest joy was caring for his grandsons, spending time with the family and working in his garden, which he took immense pride in. He especially enjoyed sending baskets of his bountiful harvest home with his children and grandchildren. Manuel will always be remembered as a loving husband, a firm and strongly supportive father and a generous grandfather. His love for his “kangaroos” (grandsons) will last forever.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Corbett Funeral Home (95 Dundas Street, Cambridge, Ontario). At 8 p.m., the rosary will be recited. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church (185 Elgin Street South, Cambridge, Ontario), on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Mount View Cemetery (80 Blenheim Road, Cambridge, Ontario).
The family wants to thank the staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for the compassionate care given during Manuel’s final days and the support provided to the family. In lieu of flowers donations made to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington, would be appreciated.
