Gordon Joseph MacKinnon

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gordon Joseph MacKinnon, age 85, of Hillier, Ontario.
Gordon passed away peacefully on March 30, 2023, while surrounded by family at Hospice Prince Edward in Picton, Ontario.
Born in Antigonish, NS on September 26th, 1937, to Michael and Catherine (nee Cameron) MacKinnon, Gordon joined the Royal Regiment of the Canadian Artillery on March 29th, 1956. During his time with the military, Gord served with the 1st Canadian Airborne Battery from September 15, 1968 – July 15, 1973. He served on several Canadian Forces Bases, including CFB Winnipeg, MB; CFB Hemer, Germany; CFB Lahr, Germany; CFB Gagetown, NB and CFB Griesbach, AB. Following his last posting at HMCS Unicorn Saskatoon, SK,
where he served as a recruiter, Gordon retired from military life on Sept. 15th, 1979.
From there he lived and worked (in sales) in Brampton, ON for twenty years before moving to Capreol, ON to be near his son, Darrell.
In 2014, Gordon and his wife, Dianne, moved to Hillier in Prince Edward County, Ontario.
Gordon was pre-deceased by his parents Michael and Catherine and his son Darrell MacKinnon.
He is survived, and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Dianne MacKinnon (nee Perodeau);
his sisters Mary Sills and Theresa Chahley (Steve); his brother John MacKinnon (Gail); daughters Kimberly MacKinnon-Kostiuk (Andrew), Sheryl MacDonald (Calvin), Jennifer Rose MacKinnon, Shannon McKirdy (Tyrell), 8 grandchildren and 3 great grand children,
along with several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Gordon was a very active man who loved sports, especially track and field. He loved watching the Toronto Maple Leafs
and the Toronto Blue Jays. He was an avid reader; golfer and he loved a good game of cards.
Gordon thoroughly loved spending time with his family and many friends. He lived life to the fullest
and made a friend in everyone he ever met.
Gordon had a kind heart, great sense of humour, and saw the best in everyone. He was always quick to help a friend in need
and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gordon wished to be cremated and interred in his birthplace of Antigonish, NS.
A celebration of life will be held at the Antigonish Legion on Sunday, August 6th, 2023.
The family wishes to thank both the staff of Hospice Prince Edward and of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital
for helping to take care of Gordon in his final days.
