MACDONALD, Norman
1942 – 2024
It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the sudden loss of devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife Brenda, his father Robert(Bob), his mother and father in-law Joyce and Stanley Chandler, his Fur Baby Mikey the cat. Survived by his mother Dorthy, his children Dean(Vicki), Robert(Angel), Tammy and special mention to Jim Rosko(Paulette) who he thought of as a son, Tanya(Al) who he thought of as a daughter. His sisters Eleanor(Jack), Flora(Alan), Gloria, his brother in-law Roger(Linda), sister in-law Jo-anne(Garry). He also leaves his grandkids; Hunter(Mackenzie), Daniel, Rebecca and Allison as well as many Nieces and Nephews whom he loved dearly. A special mention to Gloria Semple who was more of a sister than a friend to both he and Brenda in life.
Norm was a true family man, who was made complete by the love of his life Brenda, who after 62 years of marriage, sadly passed way last October.
Norm was a man who had many talents. A gifted self-taught artist, he created many beautiful paintings, carvings and paddles. He could see the beauty in simple things and would often just pick up a twisted piece of driftwood and transform it into a beautiful work or art. He was a true outdoorsman and most at home in the bushlands of Northern Ontario. He truly was THE outdoorsman. Trapper, guide, hunter, and fisherman extraordinaire, Norm was most at peace in the bush. He was an environmentalist before most people knew what the word meant and always treated nature with a kind and caring hand. He loved gardening and grew so many wonderful vegetables and berries, that friends and family were never forgotten when harvest time came around. Norm cared deeply for animals and animals seemed to know and trust him.
Norm was a hard rock miner, who excelled at his trade. In fact, his nickname underground was ”Stormin Norman” (he never clarified how that name came to be) and for over 30 years, he plied his trade in mostly gold mines across Northern Ontario. He loved rocks. Rocks adorned his home, both inside and out.
Norm was a kind and caring person who was quick to offer a helping hand to those in need.
The Family would like to thank the Staff at Blanche River Health Kirkland Lake for their patience and care they took of Norman and a special mention to Taylor and Brianna who were there with us at the end. We would also like to thank Krista from the French Family Co-operative for all her help with Mom and Dad and the care she took.
Dad(Norm)’s final wishes were to have a Celebration of his life and he did not want us to be sad for his passing so there will be no visitation or memorial immediately and a Celebration will be posted once set.
