It is with deep regret that the family of Lynne Murphy Shields (née Unger) announces her passing on the morning of June 7th at her home in Lindsay, Ontario following an extended battle with cancer.
Predeceased by beloved brothers Jim, Don, and Jeff, sister Grace, and parents Susie and Henry Unger, she is survived by her husband Peter Shields of Coboconk, along with two children, Lee (Patrick Nobbs), & Troy (Kira Murphy). Lynne leaves behind two siblings (John and Verna), loving nieces and nephews, and her four grandchildren Zoe, Grace Eva and Percy, by whom she was adored.
Lynne was born in 1950 in Grande Prairie, Alberta; the daughter of Mennonite parents, she was the 6th of 7 children. After high school, Lynne moved to Edmonton and later Red Deer, pursuing a career in banking.
In 1988, Lynne and her family relocated to Fenelon Falls, Ontario where she lived for over three decades. Following a successful 40-year career, Lynne retired from the Bank of Nova Scotia in 2013.
Lynne was an avid reader who appreciated differing world views and people from varied backgrounds. She loved being at home but never tired of hearing about the exploits of others or dialogue on a wide range of local and global topics. Her wry smile and quiet wit earned her the admiration of many.
She was a steadfast and loving mother, grandmother and wife who provided great stability for her family. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held at Jardine Funeral Home 8 Princess Street Fenelon Falls on Wednesday, June 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Jardine’s in Fenelon Falls Thursday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lynne’s name. Donations may be made by cheque through the funeral home or online.
