It is with saddened hearts that we have to announce the passing of Lynne Mary Hildebrand (Stevens) on February 18th, 2023.
After a battle with encephalitis, she passed away at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, surrounded by her family, and best friend. The family wants to express their appreciation to the staff in the MICU at HSC for the care and compassion they gave to Lynne, and her family. A special thank you to Lynne’s best friend, “Auntie” Diane Brown, for being there for Lynne and her family, not only during this time, but for the entire 35 years of friendship they shared. Born on August 17, 1946, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Lynne was the daughter of the late Bernard Brownie and Olga Buntty Stevens and was preceded in death by her brothers Donald, and Gerald Stevens. Lynne is survived by her husband, Jack Barry Hildebrand, her three children: Jason (Wendy) Stevens, Jon (Melissa) Stevens, Jodi Podolas, and her 6 grandchildren.
Lynne was raised in Winnipeg and moved to Seven Sisters Falls after she married her husband, Jack, in 1994. She grew up with a passion for dance, and she both competed and taught ballet until her late teen years. After having her three children, Lynne decided to become a registered nurse and graduated from the School of Nursing at Misericordia General Hospital in June, 1988. Lynne worked in their I.C.U. until it closed, then started working at Eastman Health Centre, and Whitemouth and Pinawa Health facilities. Lynne was forced into early retirement after she contracted encephalitis for the first time, 23 years ago. During retirement Lynne kept herself busy with her local Toastmasters chapter, and volunteered much of her time to the Khartum Shriners, of which her husband Jack is a member. In her down time, she made beautiful ceramics, quilts, various cross-stitch and knitting pieces. She was extremely talented in all of her crafts, and her friends and family were fortunate to receive these as gifts from her. Lynne cherished talking to and spending time with her children, and grandchildren, who all loved her very much. She loved traveling on cruises, her trip with Jack to the east coast, stays at Elkhorn Resort, fishing and watching the loons in the water during camping trips.
As per her wishes, a private interment of her ashes will take place later this summer. A celebration of her life will take place on Sunday, August 20th, 2023, at the Masonic Memorial Centre, 420 Corydon Avenue in Winnipeg, at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Health Sciences Centre Foundation c/o Neurology Fund, PW112-700 William Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0Z3, or to Khartum Shriners Patient Transportation Fund c/o Khartum Shriners, 1155 Wilkes Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3P 1B9.
