Lynne Elm, a beacon of love and dedication, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024, surrounded by her adoring family in Sherwood Park.
Born in November 1941, in Edmonton, Lynne’s life was a testament to her selfless nature, her loving heart, and her intelligent mind. Lynne’s early years were spent in Edmonton, where she attended Ross Sheppard High School. There, her athletic prowess shone brightly as she played volleyball and basketball on the Senior Women’s team, leading them to a City Championship. Lynne’s commitment to sports was matched by her dedication to service; she was awarded the Major Athletic and Service Awards for all three years of her high school career and served as the Director of the Athletic Board during the same period.
After high school, Lynne pursued her passion for helping others by studying nursing at the Royal Alexander Hospital and later specialized as an occupational health nurse (OHN RN) at Grant McEwan College. Her career as a registered nurse at Royal Alexander Hospital was marked by compassion and professionalism, qualities that she carried into her role as an OHN RN at Suncor, where she worked for several years.
Lynne’s commitment to her community was unwavering. Her selflessness was recognized when she received the most venerable order of the hospital of St John of Jerusalem, the Priory of Canada, for her contribution of over one thousand hours of volunteer work. Lynne’s generosity extended beyond her professional life, as she was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
A woman of many interests, Lynne found joy in the simplicity of life. She enjoyed downhill skiing, fishing, and tending to her garden. Her baking was a source of delight for her family and friends, and her love for music filled her home with warmth and energy. Lynne cherished the time spent with her family at home and at the lake, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Lynne’s legacy is carried on by her beloved spouse, Gene Elm; brother, Cliff; and sister, Karen (Wayne). She was a loving mother to Lloyd (Maureen), Doug (Mag), Lori (Nolan), and Randy (Tammy), and to her late daughter Joy. Her spirit will continue to live on through her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchild, who brought immense happiness to her life.
Lynne’s life was a portrait of devotion – to her family, her career, and her community. Those who knew Lynne will remember her as a pillar of strength, always ready with a kind word and a helping hand. Her intelligence and compassion made her a role model to many, and her unwavering love for her family was the foundation upon which she built a beautiful life together with Gene.
As we say goodbye to Lynne, we celebrate a life rich in achievements and filled with love. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished and honored for generations to come. Lynne Elm’s story is not one of sorrow, but a beautiful narrative of a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Her journey continues in the stories we share and the love we carry forward. Rest in peace, Lynne; your light will never fade.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Lynne’s life will be held at 10:00 am, on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South, 4820 Meridian Street NW, Edmonton.
For those who wish, memorial donations in Lynn’s memory can be sent to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
