Lyle Bradley
Feb 17, 1941 – Apr 20, 2024
In loving memory of Lyle Bradley, who passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2024. He was the devoted husband of Elaine, loving father of Dean (Sue), Darcy (Holly) and proud grandfather of Ben, Jake, Alex and Anna. He is survived by his brother Lorne (Sheila), sister in laws Marie and Faye and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lyle was born on the family farm in Hazel Cliffe, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of 7 children of Wilbert and Alice Bradley. Lyle graduated from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Saskatchewan in 1963 and met his wife Elaine at pharmacy college. They settled in Regina with their two sons. Lyle had a rewarding and successful pharmacy career and very quickly became a partner in Bi-Rite Drugs.
At its peak Bi-Rite owned and operated 30 drugstores across the province of Saskatchewan and was a well-known and respected business. In 1995 Bi-Rite sold their stores to Shoppers Drug Mart and Lyle retired. In Lyle’s own words “I wanted to give back to the profession that had served me well” and he was elected to serve on the National Pharmacy Board for a 3-year term representing the retail pharmacists of Saskatchewan.
In 2000 Lyle and Elaine moved to Canmore, where they committed themselves to becoming dedicated and hard-working volunteers in their community. They were faithful members of the Ralph Connor Memorial United Church and took every opportunity to generously and selflessly contribute to church events.
Lyle has been a loyal member of Rotary since 1995 and served as club president of Rotary Club of Regina Eastview in 1999-2000. He joined Canmore Rotary in 2000 and was awarded Rotarian of the Year in 2002-2003. Over the years Lyle made impactful contributions to Rotary, his personal highlight was serving on the District Youth Exchange Committee. As described by Canmore Rotary President Elect:
“His unwavering dedication to service, his kindness and his infectious spirit touched the lives of so many, leaving an indelible mark on each heart he encountered”.
Lyle loved living in the mountains and remained active throughout his retirement years – hiking, biking, golfing and curling. He was a member of the Canmore Golf and Curling Club and worked as a course marshal and starter for several years. He and Elaine enjoyed playing on a mixed curling team in the recreational league. Lyle and Elaine were also avid travellers and liked to explore new places, particularly if they could combine travel with visiting friends and extended family.
One of Lyle’s greatest pleasures was spending time with his family and he took great pride in all of their accomplishments. His grandchildren have fond memories of his unwavering support of their school and community activities, especially his time in the bleachers cheering on all of their sports.
Throughout his life, Lyle exemplified strength, resilience and grace in everything he did. He embodied the values of service and honor and leaves behind a legacy of integrity that will serve as inspiration for all who knew and loved him.
Our family is incredibly grateful to the Canmore Rotarians who showed tremendous compassion and caring in their efforts to preserve Lyle’s life. Thank you to the staff at Calgary Foothills ICU who created a place of comfort and solace for Lyle’s last days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Lyle’s memory, to the
