WALKER, Lydia Edith – Lydia passed away quietly, shortly after her 84th birthday, in her home at Royal Rose Place surrounded by family after a brief illness on Monday September 25, 2023. She was born September 13, 1939 to parents Ernie and Lydia Bentley. Predeceased by her husband Allan Turner Walker September 11, 1996 and daughter Dianne Margret July 18, 1981. Lovingly missed by daughters Cheryl Corbeil (Mario) and Jane Scott (Angus), granddaughters Andree, Katherine (Zac) and Lauren, and great-granddaughters Ellie and Norah. Survived by many nieces and nephews who she cherished greatly. Predeceased by siblings Ray, June, Shirley and Ernie. She was employed for years by the Welland County School Board, Lydia was extremely active in the community with Allan, particularly through the Welland Minor Hockey Association and the Shriners. Lydia loved life, enjoying jokes, pranks, a cold draft beer, big plates of food and above all, her family. More than anything else, her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her hope for the future and joy in the present. The family would like to extend special thanks to staff at Royal Rose, particularly her friends, nursing staff and PSWs, for their care and love of Lydia. Visitation to take place at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Saturday, September 30 at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery where Lydia will be laid to rest with her husband and daughter. Following the ceremonies, the family invites friends and family to Handlebar Hanks, a favourite of Lydia’s and her brother-in-law Gordy Walker.
