With inconsolable sadness we announce the passing of Louise Honorine Clare Kitkoski nee Emery just after midnight on October 29, 2023. She leaves to mourn her husband of 65 years Ted and daughter Robin as well as her beloved pet Buddy. She also leaves four brother, three sisters, in-laws nieces, nephews, many cousins, and several dear friends who shared a lot of laughter and many adventures.
She is predeceased by her parents Paul and Jeanne Emery of Ste. Rita, four brothers, five nephews two nieces and several extended family members.
Louise was the second oldest and first girl in a family of 12 who was born and raised in Ste. Rita called Craig Siding at the time as well as a brief but memorable period in Wade, Ontario.
Louise married Ted in August of 1958 whom she’d met on a double date with her cousin and his nephew, the date must have been a successful one as both couples married and remained so until one partner passing.
They after living briefly in Winnipeg but they made their home in Anola, MB and in 1970 their daughter Robin joined them to complete the family.
From the time she could stand on a stool to do dishes Mom helped care for the family home and her younger siblings, showing she was never afraid of hard work. Later in life this trait would stand her good stead as she worked at St. Boniface Hospital as a cleaner, then bottled pop for Canada Dry Distributors, and for a brief but successful time, selling vacuum and carpet cleaners. In 1980 Mom became a Home Care Attendant for the Municipality of Springfield caring for each patient like they were a member of her family. Being able to care for others be it family, friends, or professionally brought Louise so much joy and fulfillment.
Food was an important part of her life and her cabbage rolls, perogies, chocolate covered cherries were just a few of many recipes everyone eagerly awaited, though there wasn’t anything Mom couldn’t make. Cooking was just one of her many interests along with gardening, clog dancing, reading her favourite historical romance novels, chatting for hours to family and friends and heading out to a visit to the closest casino being just a few.
Sadly she was never blessed with good health and from a young age suffered with many serious ailments the last of which finally took her from us. Through every hurdle Mom would just do whatever was needed to overcome it while going on like business as usual. She was probably one of the strongest people I have ever met, and definitely I was proud of my mom.
Many thanks to the staff of Beausejour Hospital who were absolutely wonderful with Mom, and even allowing frequent visits from Buddy. Also Dr Shaundra Popovich along with her staff at Cancer Care Manitoba, her primary care provider for over 30 years, Dr. Cindy Pachal and finally Christian of Plessis Pharmacy who was such a wonderful support.
Viewing and prayer service will be held at Seasons Funeral Chapel 576 Balsam Crescent in Oakbank, MB on Friday November 10, 2023 service to start at 11:00 am with luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers please support the Springfield Food Bank or the charity of your choosing.
