Obituary For Louise Heather McMann
December 28, 1960 – April 11, 2023
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Louise Heather McMann, née Morgan, on April 11, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Louise was born December 28, 1960, in North River, NL, to Ned and Jane Morgan. She was the middle child of seven and from a young age, she developed a need to be independent and self-reliant. She had a love for all animals, but had a very special bond with cats. In later years she spent her time walking the roads with her very best friends, trying to stay out of trouble.
She couldn’t wait to get out on her own so in 1983, Louise moved to Alberta, the place she’d then call home. She started working at the car wash, and it was there she met Roy, the love of her life.
In 1988, Roy and Louise moved to the small mountain town of Grande Cache, where they started the rest of their lives together. They married in 1991 in their backyard, surrounded by close family and friends. Their family continued to grow as they welcomed their three beautiful girls, Michelle, Krystal and Cassidy, and raised them to be kind, strong, independent women.
As the girls grew, Louise felt the need to do something for herself, so she enrolled in an Administrative Professional program through GPRC and graduated with distinction. She began working for the Town of Grande Cache, doing a job she truly loved, which also gave her the opportunity to connect with many members of the community. She was determined and worked extremely hard all her life.
Louise’s girls were her entire world. She lived for them and no matter who she was chatting with, the conversation always led back to them and how proud she was of each of them. Her heart and love grew with the addition of each of her grandchildren, Theodore, Karson, Josie and Kohen.
While Louise’s love for her family was strongest, she also loved to chat with almost anyone, that’s why going uptown was never quick. She loved to walk, and shop and never passed up a good deal. Christmas and Easter were her favourite holidays because seeing her people together and happy, made her happy. And she of course loved the turkey dinners that came with them, and she always said, «the second plate was never as good as the first.» Louise loved to spend her time at the lake, especially with Roy, soaking up the sun. She loved to float in the boat, poke at the fire, and drink a cold Bud Light from a glass. She had a passion for crafting, turning up a good song to dance, and curling up by the fire with the dogs. Louise loved to watch the Blue Jays, and the good ol’ hockey game. There was rarely a game played where she wasn’t yelling at someone on the tv to “shoot!». Not only did Louise love to watch curling, she loved to curl herself, especially with her close friends. She had a vivacious personality and always found a way to make people laugh.
Louise was a dedicated wife first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She ensured her home was a safe space for not only her girls and grandchildren, but all of their friends too. She treated them as her own and made sure they knew if they wanted something, they just needed to help themselves. Louise told it like it was. Even though she always said, “it’s all about me,” she always put everyone else first. She loved her people with everything she had. She was strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined her. They were a part of who she was, and her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life’s challenges.

Louise is survived and missed by her husband, Roy McMann; her daughters, Michelle (Daniel) Kellie, Krystal McMann and Cassidy (Ben) McMann; her grandchildren, Karson and Kohen (Michelle), and Theodore and Josie (Krystal); and her siblings, Linda (Kelly) Laing, Sharon (Gerry) Mercer, Karen (Fred) Morgan, Edward (Barb) Morgan and Marlene (John) Morgan.
She is predeceased by her parents, Edward “Ned” and Jane Morgan; and her brother, Wade Morgan.
At Louise’s request, there will be no service. However, donations can be made in Louise’s name to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
