Died peacefully at home after a brief battle with cancer. Predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Katherine (nee Thiessen). Loving father of Karen (Nick) and Adrian (Sherry). Dear grandfather of Braydan (Savannah), Kyler (Shaye), Stephanie (Chris), Nathaniel (Abby) and great grandfather of Atlas, Lyzza, Demetri, Illyria, Isla, Mackenzie and Cameron. Louis was born in Selsey Sussux, England and immigrated to Canada in 1950. He was a man of many talents and a master of them all. His parents needed a house, he built it. He enjoyed art, so he painted it. (both watercolour and acrylic). Our mom needed furniture – he designed and crafted it. He enjoyed music so he sang in choirs, performed at local functions and even won a singing contest at Victoria Hall. Louis built museum quality model boats. Specializing in RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institute replicas) of which his grandfather was a coxswain. He carved old English style rocking horsed for his grandchildren, which are still used by his great grandchildren today. Photography and model railroads were also hobbies he enjoyed. He married his beloved wife in 1962 and they raised their two children in the Cobourg area. He worked at Brookside Training School for many years and maintained friendships with many of his former colleagues. After his retirement, and despite his tendency towards solitude, he and our mother befriended an amazing group of people affectionately named “the coffee club”. They would meet for a hot beverage, and laugh every morning. Those relationships were held in high regard until his passing. The last year and a half of his life, he resided with his daughter and son ii law in Petrolia. He enjoyed his new community (especially his neighbours) and relished in familiarizing himself withal the roads in Lambton County. We will miss him, but we will let him go. Cremation has taken place with a service to be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank Care Partners, VON, Bayshore Homecare and Dr. McSweeney. Special mention to Richard, Lucy, Jane and Mary, without whose support we would have been able to fulfill Dad’s final wishes.
