Lorrie’s Obituary
is with immeasurable heartbreak that we announce the passing of the most magnificent woman, Lorrie Morrison. After a hard-fought battle with breast cancer, it was time for her to join her husband Darryl after four long years apart. In the early afternoon on January 5, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones, Lorrie said goodbye.
The world became a better place on July 31, 1969 when a gorgeous brown eyed baby girl was born. Lorrie grew up in Wallace Station with a large family of seven siblings. As a young teenager as Daddy’s little girl, Lorrie, had one major rule from her father, do not cross the Wallace bridge. Lorrie eventually broke the rule and fell in love with her soulmate, Darryl. Lorrie spent 34 years with Darryl by her side. The love they had for each other is beyond compare.
Throughout Lorries life, she worked many different jobs, a cook, a baker, mail driver, packaging and harvesting marijuana, an office clerk. However, her real calling was simply being Momma. She was a caregiver, a chef, a therapist, a teacher and everything in between when you needed it. Providing unconditional love for everyone in her life, each person she crossed paths with was taken under her wing and became family to her – the true matriarch of her entire family. Anytime her children brought home a friend, or Darryl drug home a new “stray” she became their Momma too. A list of honorary children longer than you can imagine. Always there when you needed her, the most dependable person in everyone’s lives. If you needed a hug, a warm home to sleep, an overwhelmingly full stomach or a hard slap in the back of the head.
Spending time in her presence would instantly provide everyone with a sense of calm, even in the chaos of her crazy family. Endlessly the light of all of our lives, Lorrie was renowned for her skills in the kitchen – you were never allowed to leave her house hungry. Providing comfort for people gave her the greatest joy. Always giving a sense of home for everyone who was lucky enough to be invited into her life. No matter where she lived there would be a house full of people. Each one of them with a different indescribable bond with her, but all loving her beyond words. She had an immense amount of compassion for people and consistently felt the need to make sure everyone around her was safe. Even in her last moments her only concern was how everyone else would be without her keeping it all together. Making sure that we all knew, “You’ll be okay.”
Lorrie will be remembered for so many things. Her compassion for everyone, her hugs, lecturing you when you knew you needed it but didn’t want to hear it. No one will forget the never-ending list of amazing baked goods and immaculate suppers. Lorrie was incredibly beautiful inside and out. She had a smile that would light up the entire room and a laugh that would bring you to tears. A truly amazing soul, a personality that gave you true peace and happiness.
Lorrie was the most incredible mother, wife, Grammy, sister, aunt and best friend. Some of the most important people in her life were waiting to see her again. Most importantly her husband, Darryl. Her father Percy and her mother Elsie. Lorries memory will live on forever in her family members. Her baby boy, Gregory (Bobbie Weeks), her little girl Alisha (Mike MacKinnon). The lights of her life, her favorite little ones, grandchildren Camden, Lilah and Brynn. Many siblings, nieces, nephews, extended and chosen family. The immense and indescribable love and support given to Lorrie during her life will never be forgotten. Her closest people never left her side and a special thank you needs to be given to these amazing family members. Randy and Rosemarie Sullivan, Angela Smith, Margaret Morrison and Linda O’Hara. As well a special acknowledgment needs to go to Martha Ferguson and Dr. Dan MacDonald for everything, they did to take care of Lorrie after her diagnosis, words will never describe how much they have done for her and how thankful we are.
“We are because she was…”
The family requests fireworks in lieu of flowers. Arrangements for a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche.
