Lorraine Theresa Walsh (Breen) passed
away peacefully on April 3, 2023 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital,
with her family at her side. Despite her diagnosis of Non-Hodgkins
Lymphoma three years ago, she continued to be a daily presence in the
lives of her beloved grandchildren.
Lorraine graduated from Dr. John Hugh
Gillis Regional High. She later went to
college and graduated from secretarial school. She worked for many
happy years at the Bishop’s House in the late 70’s
and then later to S&L Bakery where she was known to
take younger kids under her wing whom she grew to love just like her
own. She retired in 2019 to care for her granddaughter
Emlynn, who was her pride and joy. Emmy always knew her nanny would
offer her a hug, a cuddle – and usually that treat that mom had said
«no» to.
Mom was an avid walker and was often
seen walking her loop around town – after work, or with the baby. She
took good care of her own health but above all, cared for us as the
pillar of our family. She was the glue that held us together, and our
ray of sunshine every day. She lit up a room with her smile, her wit,
and her easy laughter. More than anything, she loved her grandchildren
with everything she had.
Mom always reminded us that
«everything will be fine», especially when we were at our
lowest. She taught us to love fiercely, and forgive often. Mom was
always our biggest supporter at the basketball court, at highland
games, late night phone calls, or in her gentle encouragement to
always do the right thing and be the best possible version of
ourselves. She showed us pure, unconditional love, free of judgment.
There will always be a void that cannot be filled, a mom/nanny sized
hole in our hearts and lives.
She is survived by her three children
and four grandchildren, who made up the entirety of her world: Kai-Lee
(Greg), Jarrett (Patti), and Bradley; grandchildren: Tigh (11), Nola
(9), Emlynn (4), Ariah (2). And by sisters: Effie (Henry)
Joosten, Ohio; Ruby (late Kevin) MacGillivray, Brierly Brook; Loretta
(Bill) MacIntosh, Antigonish; Genie (Buddy Blair) Stevens, Wolfville;
brothers: Richard, Beaver Meadow; Glen, Alberta;
Pierre (Judy), James River and sister in law, Martina (Regis) Kell,
Antigonish.
Besides her parents, Eugene and Ona
(Lively) Breen, she was predeceased by her husband Eugene
«Tilly» Walsh; son, Johnathan Walsh; and brothers, Kevin and
Laurie.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral
Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on Wednesday from 6 to 9
pm. Funeral Service will be in St. Ninian Cathedral on
Thursday at 11:00 am with Reverend Donald MacGillivray presiding
. Burial in St. Ninian Cemetery at a later date. In
