Parcourez la nécrologie de Lorne Allen Hunter Thursday May 30th 2024 résidant dans la province Ontario pour le détail des funérailles.
Lorne Allen Hunter passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 30, 2024 at the age of 93, surrounded by family,
in Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Survived by his beloved wife Donna, children Stacey, Craig and wife Sandy, Drew and
partner Kerry, his brother David, grandchildren Rachele and husband Yohan, Gregory, Jordan, Marshall, and Adam, and
great grandchildren Iyla and Kaia.
Lorne was born in 1931 in Windsor, Ontario, to Claude and Ethel Hunter. He loved sports and while attending Sandwich
Collegiate (a.k.a. J.L. Forster) excelled at track and field and football and earned a spot on the “All-City Dream Team”.
After graduating he spent several months in Europe and then attended Western University in London where he earned
his BSc in Honours Chemistry and the coveted purple blanket for his athletic accomplishments.
He married Donna Wagner in 1955 and they moved to Brockville where Lorne began work for DuPont. In 1959 they
transferred to Sarnia and in 1964 Lorne decided to enter teaching rather than transfer from Sarnia and friends. Teaching
and coaching were his passion and through the years at Central Collegiate and St. Clair Secondary School, where he was
head of Science, he touched many lives.
Lorne spent many years golfing at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club and being active with St. Luke’s United Church. He
loved traveling with Donna, camping or cottaging with the kids, and all the holiday traditions that brought the family
together.
At all stages of life Lorne made lifelong friends. He enjoyed helping others with handyman projects and always found
time for family and friends, sports and music hobbies, and for the community. He lived a good and full life and we will
miss him so much.
Lorne is predeceased by his sisters Doreen Jost, Elsie O’Neil, and Esther Jacobs.
Cremation has taken place. In memory of Lorne an informal gathering for family and friends will be held at St. Luke’s
United Church at 350 Indian Road South, Sarnia, June 22, between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
