It is with sadness we announce the
passing of Loring Lowther Wilmot, age 86,
of Amherst. Loring passed away on Monday,September 11, 2023 at Gables
Lodge in Amherst, NS.
Born in Oxford, NS, he was a son of the
late Gerald and Geraldine (Lowther) Wilmot.
Loring was larger than life, physically,
in personality, and in his walk with Jesus. Loring was created to
sell. He sold life insurance, Kellogg’s cereal, McCains french fries
and potato chips, farm equipment, wholesale and retail groceries,
house and car insurance, wild blueberries and carrots and battered
products, and finally apple pies.
Loring had gift of gab allowing those
around him to warm up to him quickly. Loring was quick-witted and had
a joke for every occasion. He was a master storyteller whose tales
grew bigger and better with each iteration.
He was an athlete. He played golf
regularly until last summer with his lifelong golfing buddy and cousin
(more like a brother or son) Philip. He was also a coach bringing ice
hockey to western Philadelphia in the early 70’s. Loring was an
outdoors man and master hunter.
Loring loved Bev, he loved his family,
he loved his church, he loved his community, he loved his co-workers,
and he loved Jesus. Loring asked Jesus to be his Lord and Saviour on
Christmas Eve 1986 and followed him until his last breath. He is with
Jesus now.
He will be dearly missed by his wife
Beverley, Amherst; children June Gour, Halifax, NS; Craig (Kim),
Amherst; grandchildren Jonathan, Jason, Heather and James; great
grandchildren Bentley, Kinsley, Hudson, Avery, and Meadow; cousins
Philip, Shannon and Matthew.
Arrangements are under the care and
supervision of the Jones Family Funeral
Centre, 70 Church Street, Amherst (902-667-8777) where
visitation will take place on Monday, September 18, 2023 from 6 pm to
8 pm. Loring’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 19,
2023 at 2 PM from Jones Family Funeral Centre, Pastor Andrew Swanson
officiating. Burial will take place in the Pine Grove Cemetery at a
later date.
