It is with great sadness that the family of Loretta Byrne, Keels are announcing her passing at the age of 92 with her family by her side on June 4, 2023, at Bonavista Hospital.
Predeceased by husband Vincent, son Brian (infant), parents Thomas & Elizabeth Ann (Snow) Ducey and sisters Catherine (Michael – deceased), Celine (William – deceased), Margaret (Morgan – deceased) and brothers Bernard and Kevin.
Left with loving memories of her gentle and kind soul are her children Gerald (Philomena), Donald (Lesley), William (Rosella), Elizabeth, and Michael (Wanda). Also mourning her passing are sisters Barbara (Frank – deceased) and brothers Adrian (Bride), John (Anne). Loretta loved and cherished her grandchildren Elaine (Kenny), Allan (Emily), Andy, Vanessa (Ryan), Steven (Kerri), Stephanie (Nathan), Michelle (Mark), and Melissa (Jamie). Loretta dearly loved her great-grandchildren Daniel, Adalyn, Jonathan, Emily, and Abigail. Sharing in sorrow are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Loretta was a very kind and caring person who, in her younger years, helped elderly people in need in the community. The Catholic school of Keels was one of her top priorities. Having lived in Keels her entire life, she was called upon many times to say the Rosary for a deceased member of the community. She was also a source of finding out the history of families of Keels. Those who visited Loretta over the years were always welcome in her home. Many walked away with a cup of tea and a lunch, as well as a long and lovely chat. All while raising her family while her husband was away working, she worked hard at vegetable gardens and raising animals. She had a passion and great love for berry picking that started at a very young age and continued until her late eighties.
Big thank you to the care workers and nurses at Golden Height’s Manor and Bonavista Hospital. Your empathy, kindness and compassion will forever be remembered.
Visitation will take place on Monday, June 5th from 1-5PM and 7-9 PM and Tuesday, June 6th 1-5 PM and 7-10PM at the Catholic school in Keels.
The celebration of life will be held at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in King’s Cove at 11AM on Wednesday June 7th, 2023. A celebration of life for anybody who would like to pay their respects will take place at the Catholic School in Keels following the service.
