Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Loretta Hickey (nee Glavine). Loretta was born in Buchans, Newfoundland to Eric and Alice (nee Cooke) Glavine. She had 8 siblings, Denis, Gert, Bea, Joe, Tom, Terry, Mary, and her twin sister Lucy.
She is predeceased by her husband William Hickey (d. September 2021) and George LaFave (d. June 1984)
Loretta is survived by her children Teresa (Harold), George (Patti), Paul and Bowen (Kim). Stepchildren, Linda, Philip (Cheryl), Tammy (d.) and Adele (d.) (Ralph).
Adored Grandmother to Jasmyn, Taylor, Andrew, Sarah, Blake, Avarie, Liam, Rose, April, William, Philip, Christina, Jim, Jack, Justus, and Austin. Great Grandmother to Bronson, Aubrey, Jack, Mick, Madison, and Alec.
Loretta’s life was one filled with love for her family, and for those whose lives she touched.
In 1967 George and Loretta moved to Jackson’s Point, Ontario, joining his sister Marilyn and John Rae. This is where she met her longtime friend and confidant Ruth Mahoney.
While raising her children as a single parent, Loretta worked at TD Bank and later at Texas Instruments. Volunteering was always close to her heart – she dedicated her time to supporting her church and contributing to other causes such as the Suicide Prevention Call Centre, helping young mothers, and working with the local hockey league and food banks.
She met her husband Bill, first as friends, with their kids going to the same school. They later reconnected, married, and started their beautiful life together. They were soulmates, supporting each other throughout the good times and bad. There were many trips with Gert and John, Lucy and Vince and Jimmy and Louise.
Bill provided exceptional, compassionate care for her when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He couldn’t have tried harder or loved her more. Her children are forever grateful for the love and care he provided for her. May their dance continue for all eternity.
Many people knew her as Loretta, Lollypop, Loll, Aunt Loll, sister, twin, Grandma, friend, sister-in-law, coworker, Lieutenant LaFave. But we, Teresa, George, Paul, and Bowen were the luckiest of all, because we got to call her “mom”. Love you mom, to the moon and back.
In Memory of Loretta Hickey, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Here are some organizations Loretta supported in the past:

I will always remember Loretta (Lollypop) infectious Laugh. She always appreciated my goofy sense of humor so anytime we spoke I made sure to say something silly to hear that laugh.
Rest in Peace Beautiful Lady. Your in a better place now. Love Nancy
