Lloyd George English – In the early morning of April 18th at the age of 71, it was Lloyd’s time to be at peace. He spent his final night with his three children and his wife, Sherry, of 52 years. Lloyd grew up in Thorburn and he was the son of the late Lloyd Sr. and Mary (Campbell) English.
Not only did he work at Michelin for 38 years, he worked at any spare job that was asked of him and would never consider it work. In his younger years, he enjoyed working at his own saw mill and always longed to have another.
He loved the outdoors and said “there was no feeling like being in the woods and it being so completely quiet that you could hear ringing in your ears”. His love of the outdoors consisted of hunting, trapping, fishing, and moose guiding. He also took a lot of pride in his yard which was full of any kind of flower, shrub, bush, and vegetable that you could imagine. He enjoyed the many years he raised livestock including his special friend Gilbert.
Anyone that knew Lloyd knew he had the best stories and he would tell them to anyone who would listen whether he knew them or not. The more he told the story, the longer and better it got – the fish would be bigger and the hunt would be more exciting. He was the type of person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it.
He was a MacGyver, a jack of all trades. Whenever you needed to know something, he was the guy to call. He was always willing to give his best advice and his word was taken as gospel – “Well, that’s what Puppie said.”
What he took pride in most was his family. Lloyd and Sherry were inseparable. You could always find them going for a drive to look at the buffalo, enjoying a meal at Mother Webb’s, and spending as much time with grandchildren as they could.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife and best friend Sherry (Llewellyn); children, Ritchie (Amanda), Calgary; Leanne (Pete), Ormoncto; Carla (Adam), Barney’s River; grandchildren, Taylor, Dawson, Brooke, Garrett, Allie, and Shanna; sister Jennie, Thorburn; nephews Kevin (Alice), Cindy (Derek); nephews Frank (Kathy), John (Michelle); great nephews and godsons Cody and Ethan; great nephew Keigan; great nieces Sarah, Hannah, Kayla, and Kelsey. Brothers-in-law Frank Norris, Jack (Linda) Llewellyn, Joe MacLean; sister-in-law Sheila (Len) Eaton.
Predeceased by his parents Lloyd Sr. and Mary English; sisters Chris English and Judy Norris; great nephew Cameron Norris; mother and father-in-law Jim and Lil Llewellyn; sister-in-law Glenna MacLean.
The family will receive visitors, 1-3pm and 6-8pm Sunday, April 21st at H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held Monday, April 22nd at 11am at H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Glen Matheson with reception to follow.
Donations can be made in Lloyd’s memory to the Pictou County Palliative Care Society.
Sherry and family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to their family doctor of the last 45 years Dr. Thomas Park, oncologist Dr. Mary MacNeil, radiation oncologist Dr. Helmut Hollenhorst, the oncology unit at the Aberdeen Hospital including Dr. Patricia Craig, Dr. Cheryl Smith, and as Lloyd would call them – his angels, palliative care Dr. Anne Kwasnik, palliative care nurse Rachel MacDonald, palliative care staff, and VON.
We would also like to thank everyone who has visited and supported us through this difficult time
“They will definitely remember all your efforts.”
