Lisa Hughes Obituary
Lisa completed her earthly journey on May 7, 2024. She has now spread her wings and become a true free spirit. She is immensely proud of her son, Dion, and her granddaughters, Mya and Lena. Sister of John Hughes and Rebecca Hughes-Hall.
Raised and educated in the UK, she studied theatre design in London and came to Canada in 1975. She arrived in Stratford in 1978 and began work at the Festival Theatre, where she worked as a prop-builder, scenic artist and then primarily as costume painter, developing and perfecting many techniques in the art of costume painting and breakdown. Aside from her work at the Festival, highlights of her career involved painting costumes for Mick Jagger and many of the major musicals. Lisa was a talented artist whose paintings depicted a variety of subjects including the landscapes of her native Wales. She retained a profound connection to her homeland, best captured in the Welsh word, ‘hiraeth’, that translates as ‘a deep longing’. She wishes love and light to all her friends past and present who have touched her life.
A celebration of Lisa’s life will be held at Grayson Mills 114 Erie Street, Stratford on Sunday, May 26, from 2-4 p.m. Donations in Lisa’s memory can be made to Cedar Row Farm Sanctuary. www.cedarrow.org Arrangements entrusted to the W.G.
