Obituary
Lisa Dawn Schraefel was born at the Kerrobert, Saskatchewan hospital to Bill & Barb Diederichs. Of their three children, Lisa was the oldest, then her sister Laure, and her brother Callen.
Lisa attended all her public schooling in Kerrobert, where she graduated in 1981. (As side note: Lisa won the Knights of Columbus Free Throw competition more than once. It was later told by some that “she couldn’t miss”). Lisa then went to Red Deer College to get her Nurse’s Assistant Diploma and fell in love with the area. She then moved to Lloydminster, the Saskatchewan side, and attended college there to obtain her certification in assisting kids with special needs. An expertise duly suited for Lisa’s compassionate and caring heart. (A skill she would use often, after marrying Mark.)
Lisa started dating Mark while at a friends birthday party in 1982 She was 19. Lisa fell in love with Mark and agreed to marry the boy. (Knowing fair well that “someone” will have to take care of him). They were married September 22, 1984 in Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Kerrobert.
Lisa and Mark would go on to discuss their feelings as to whether they would like boys or girls for kids. Well of course every mother wants girls to dress up and hang out with so Lisa expressed that. Mark said that first you need a few big brothers to protect their sisters. Lisa sighed and agreed. It is just like God to deliver what Lisa agreed to. A year later Nathan was born. Three years later, Nicolas. Three years later, Alexandria. Three years later, Amaris. Three years later, Abria. And then, Lisa’s little surprise six years later, at the tender age of forty, little Avalon was born. Lisa got her two bodyguards for her four princesses.
Lisa and Mark, along with Nathan, Nicolas, and Lexi, moved to Lacombe where Amaris, Abe and Avy were born. Lisa would proceed to Home School all six kids herself. Mark attempted to assist, but promptly got fired, by Lisa, for teaching “old math” to her “new” children.
Lisa was truly a pioneer in both Home Schooling and eating organic, ultra healthy food. Especially back in the day when neither was widely accepted or cool. Lisa didn’t care. For as compassionate and caring as she was, she was no pushover. She stood her ground. But the thing she stood most firmly on, was her faith. Lisa attended Mass regardless of the weather or how sick she might be feeling. The kids would learn quickly; Mom will offer no excuse for missing Mass.
Lisa would go on to be blessed with nine grandkids as well: Jarrett, Sarah, Harley, Shaddix, Greyson, Myah, Nevaeh, Merrick, and baby “no name”. As of yet.
There are tons of stories surrounding Lisa’s life. Too many to mention here.
The sad ending to a life well lived is that Lisa contracted a Sepsis infection and was admitted to the Red Deer ICU April 14 where she spent the next 12 weeks receiving every possible treatment with love and compassion from the nurses, doctors and all the staff around her. Her children were able to be by her side, shifting on and off 24/7 so their mother was never alone. Jesus peacefully took her hand and led her home 6:04 pm, Friday, July 7, 2023, at the young age of 59.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m at St. Stephen Catholic Church (5128 – 53 Street, Lacombe), with Fr. Joseph Jacobson celebrating. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
