It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Lionel Gerald Milette, a beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather, and treasured friend.
Lionel passed away February 8, 2024, at the University of Alberta Hospital after facing complications from a stroke. He was
predeceased by his father Alexandre Milette, mother Egédiasse (née Giasson), and older brothers Octave, Raymond, Roger and Gerry. Lionel leaves behind his devoted wife Diane (née Laskiwski) of 45 years, and their children Matthew (Marisha), Nicholas (Keshia) and Katrina, grandchildren Nathalie, Luc and Alice. He is also survived by sisters Amanda and Cecile, brothers Arthur (Eva) and David (Henrie), and sisters-in-law Lorraine and Claire, as well as numerous extended family.
Born on August 27, 1947, in Winnipeg, MB, Lionel lived a life full of vitality, purpose and kindness. He will be fondly remembered for his 30 years of service with the City of Edmonton Fire Department, his work ethic, love for hunting and the great outdoors, his energy, zest for life and dedication to his family. In this time of loss, we find solace in the cherished memories Lionel leaves behind, and may his spirit continue to inspire and uplift us. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Roger Yao and Dr. Brian Rowe at the U of A Hospital for their support and guidance in Lionel’s care.
A funeral service to honor Lionel’s memory will take place on Saturday March 9, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Parish, located at 7508 29 Avenue NW, Edmonton AB with Father Jim Corrigan officiating, followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Northern Alberta, www.sbhana.org
