Linda Alice Lorraine Purves, 73, passed away on October 20th, 2023. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she passed.
Linda was born on February 21st, 1950, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Samuel & Phyllis Purves. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Joanna (Darren) and son Kirk (Jiness). Linda is also survived by her grandchildren Madeline (Koltyn), Emma(Brendan), Clayton (Rachel) and Danica. She was pre-deceased by her parents Samuel and Phyllis, brother Bob, sister Barbara Ann and nephew Andrew.
Linda spent most of her childhood in Charleswood, attending school alongside her best friend of fifty plus years, Martha Brousseau, together through thick and thin. Linda, with her family, lived in several different communities, St. Anne, St Norbert, before finally settling down roots in the Portage la Prairie area. Linda went on to have her two children, Kirk in 1974 and Joanna in 1978.
Linda would often be found in the kitchen, preparing meals from scratch with her daughter Joanna, some of which included homemade Chinese food, pizza, and fresh bread. Linda was always available to her family, her pride and joy was being a homemaker and stay-at-home mom to her children and family dog, Guffer.
In the later years, when her children were attending school, Linda would help around the family business, completing tasks such as bookkeeping.
Linda graduated to “Guagum” and “Grammy” when her grandchildrenMadeline, Emma, Clayton, and Danica were born. Linda joined her daughter Joanna and granddaughters Madeline and Emma in Poplar Point, living in her trailer, with her puppies Sweetie, Pebbles, Cuddles, Sweetpea and Teddy. Linda was the best “Guagum” to her granddaughters, playing Scrabble for hours on end or spending warm afternoons in the sunroom together.
Linda joined her sister Judy, in Cooks Creek, after her daughter andgranddaughters moved away. Linda and Judy had a close friendship on top of being sisters, enjoying the odd cocktail together and talking for hours on the phone when they weren’t together visiting. Linda kept herself occupied with group meetings, making friends with neighbours everywhere she went, including Ken and Tracy, who fondly knew her as “Couch Linda”. Ken and Tracy were there for Linda when she needed it most, welcoming her into their home with open arms.
We want to send a special thank you to the staff at East-Gate Lodge in Beausejour, Dr. Cho and the Selkirk Regional Health Center Surgical team fortaking such great care of Linda in her final weeks of life.
To respect Linda’s wishes, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, to celebrate her life,
