The world has lost an incredible woman, an unconditionally loving and devoted wife, Mom and Nana, sister and friend. A creative and talented soul, a caretaker, and a fighter against incredible odds.
While we mourn the loss of Linda Marie Dufour, who passed away on June 20, 2024 in Thunder Bay, we reflect upon the incredible life she lived and the lessons she taught us along the way.
Linda was the oldest of seven children born to Helen and Lawrence “Art” Roy on January 31, 1954. From her birthplace in Sioux Lookout, she and her family then lived in Valora, where she spent many years of her youth. An opportunity arose for the family to then relocate their lives, their belongings, and even their house, to Ignace.
Linda became a mom at a young age to her first born, Teri.
After moving Thunder Bay, she had Michael, and then Kari followed. Her time was filled with being a homemaker and mom. She spent many years in Thunder Bay before moving back to Ignace
After meeting Yvan, it wasn’t long before they had a Destini, and got married. Linda worked at the North Woods Motor Inn while she cared for her family and made their house in Ignace a beautiful home. Linda loved her yard, from sun up to sun down in the summers, she was outside. She had a natural eye for style, which led her to a decades-long career as a florist. She received her practical training in Winnipeg, but she learned the real-world skills when she opened her own shop called “Our Place.” Her special touch was well-loved by the community, from elaborate special events to simple “just because” bouquets.
She later moved her business to her home, which became “Nana’s Flowers.”
She always had time for anyone that needed her. She constantly had a spare room, a snack, a smile, or an ear to listen. Her kids could call her, day or night, and she’d be there without any judgment. Her beloved grandchildren truly could do no wrong in her eyes, and she beamed with pride anytime she thought or spoke about them.
She did not know the meaning of “sitting still.” Knitting or crochet needles went with her wherever she went – on a plane, in the backseat of a car, or just a movie night on the couch. Her family and friend are blessed to have many pieces of her handiwork, from blankets to dish clothes and more.
Linda’s best friend was Sassy – her Havanese dog. Every day, she lovingly cared for sassy, she brushed and groomed daily, even going so far as to put stylish little shirts on her and ponytails in Sassy’s hair.
Linda will be forever remembered for her unending positivity. She leaves a beacon of light, love, and wisdom and those who were blessed to know her are forever grateful that their paths crossed on this earth journey.
Linda is survived by her husband of 35 years, Yvan and their daughter Destini; Linda’s children Teri (Dave) and their daughter Emma; Michael (Vivianna) and their sons Michael and Mason; Kari (Ron) and their daughters Melanie and Gina; step-daughter Chantel (Adam) and their daughter Savannah; her father Art; siblings, Debbie, Patty, Judy, Lawrence “Turkey”, Leonard, and Rob, and their families; her dog Sassy; and many extended family and friends.
Linda was predeceased by her mother, Helen.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In her memory, the family requests contributions to Dryden Veterinary Services, 319 Grand Trunk Ave, Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.
