Passed away at age 77 with her husband and daughters by her side on Friday at Kemptville District Hospital. Beloved wife of Ken for 54 years, having met at the tennis club in Lachine in their teens.
Loving mother of Carolyn (James) and Christine (Jeremy), “Moma” to Kyle, Charli, and Will. Dear sister of Joan Steszyn, of Montreal, and aunt to Lynn and Ron. Daughter of the late Alfred and Viola Robertson.
Linda was born in Montreal in 1946, the second daughter of Alf and Vi. Her childhood and youth were spent in Lachine playing tennis and courting her childhood sweetheart, Ken. In 1968, she married Ken and they began their life together, first in Lachine with the arrival of Carolyn, and then Dorval with Christine.
Eventually, Linda and her family settled in Ottawa, where she raised her children at the house on Thorndale Drive. So many loving memories were made there with “Momsie,” Ken, her girls, and their many dogs; whether it was on family vacations to the U.S., cruises around the Caribbean, or simply in the pool out back, which was a popular destination for the girls and their friends during their childhood.
But Linda was much more than just a wife and a mom. She was a Brownie leader, Guide leader, Sunday school teacher, lunch monitor and regular school volunteer. The house on Thorndale had an open door and the girls’ friends all knew that Linda would have an ear for them, should they need it.
Those memories eventually included her grandchildren, as Christine and Carolyn both began families of their own. Kyle, Charli, and then Will, all spent time splashing in the pool at Thorndale or marching around the house to the tune of “I Would Walk 500 Miles” with their “Moma” in tow.
In 2012, Ken and Linda moved to Kemptville, where they began the next chapter of their lives and forged new friendships.
Linda’s selflessness knew no bounds. Whether it was for her children, her parents, a friend enduring cancer treatments, Linda was always there.
Friends are invited to visit the Kemptville Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 805 Prescott Street, Kemptville on Wednesday June 14, 2023 from 6 pm to 9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 35 Clothier Street West, Kemptville on Thursday at 11 am. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the Kemptville Chapel Reception Centre, back at the Funeral Home. Interment at Oxford Mills Anglican Cemetery.
To the nurses on the second floor of the Kemptville District Hospital, thank you for your kindness and compassion during Linda’s final days.
