Linda Hiscott Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, Linda Hiscott, on December 4, 2024.
Linda was born in North Sydney on November 26, 1951, to the late Peter and Jeannette (Harvey) Hiscott.
Linda is survived by her two daughters, Lisa (Bob) and Catherine, as well as her nine grandchildren: Alisha (Kieran), Alivia, Hailey, Brooke, Blake, Kyle, Valerie, Eris, and Gabe. She is also survived by her brothers, Michael and Jack (Bettyann), her sister Colleen, her nieces Sonia and Amy (Joshua), her nephews Peter (Mary), Blair, and William (Carley), and several great-nieces and nephews.
Linda started working at Nickerson’s Fish Plant in North Sydney at the age of 19, where she worked for many years before moving to a fish plant in Alderpoint. It was there that a work injury led to her early retirement.
In addition to her parents, Linda was also predeceased by her sister Mary and her brother Gerald.
In her earlier years, Linda lived life to the fullest. When she wasn’t working, she loved bowling in the lady’s league in Sydney Mines, playing Bingo at Sea Lanes in North Sydney, attending dances with her friends, playing cards and shopping up a storm whenever she could. She also preferred the warmer months, when she could go fishing, tend to her garden, and go blueberry picking to finish the summer off. Later, she also enjoyed spending her summers visiting the many beaches of Cape Breton with her daughter Catherine and her summer trips to Halifax to her daughter Lisa’s where both of her daughters and all of her grandchildren would spend a week or two together. Linda also loved to frequent yard sales, take in a horse race in North Sydney on Saturday afternoons and enjoy a good tea during a Sunday drive or while playing her favorite game Egg Buddies on Facebook.
Despite her health, Linda loved to laugh and joke around all the time. She had a warm smile and warm heart. I grew up watching my mother always go above and beyond for her family and always wanting to help out anyone that needed it. She was kind and generous to all her family and friends.
Above all, Linda cherished the time spent with her family, her daughters and her grandchildren, whom she adored and was incredibly proud of. She was a pillar of strength in our family and she fought incredibly hard to stay with us. We are forever grateful to Taiye and her daughter Catherine for their unwavering care and love during her final months, allowing Linda to enjoy what time remained.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the paramedics, doctors, and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s emergency department for their tireless efforts to save her.
Until we meet again, rest easy, Mom. Your job here is complete and we are grateful for all that you did, and were, for us. Your many years of suffering are over and now it’s time to dance in the sky and soar freely in our hearts forever.
As per Linda’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal funeral. A Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date, followed by a celebration of life in her honor.
