Leslie James Paus (July 17, 1930- March 5, 2024.)
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. Following a brief illness, Les passed peacefully on March 5, 2024.
Les was born in Lampman, Saskatchewan, spending his childhood on the family farm. He knew from an early age that he wanted to be a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and enlisted at 18. He was rapidly promoted through the ranks, earning his Officer commission in 1963. He proudly served for over 32 years, travelling the world while orchestrating the transportation of military personnel and materials, supporting peace keeping operations. Les retired in 1982 as the Senior Administrative Officer for Air Transport Command.
In 1956, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Paus. Through 66 years of love and dedication, they raised three children, Dianne, Dale, and Deborah, lived in several different military bases, including a 3-year posting to Lahr Germany. Upon retirement, Les and Dorothy travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, and North America, but they always loved to come back to the home they built overlooking the Bay of Quinte. They spent many happy years watching their family grow, seasons change, and enjoying the antics of families of geese, swans, rabbits and other wildlife. Always proud of their children, their joy and pride grew with the arrival of each of their 9 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Predeceased by his partner in life, Dorothy, Les is survived by his three children, Dianne Gillespie (Stewart Brady, deceased) Dale Paus, Deborah Paus (Earl Hough), grandchildren Katrina (Jammie), Chantal, Matthew, Alexander, Jessica, Nicholas, Katherine (Ian), Jamison (Courtney), Erin, and great-grandchildren Finn and Sebastian.
Les will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends he and Dorothy considered family. We would like to thank Dr. Moore, and the Bayshore Health team for their compassionate and supportive care to our family. Cremation has taken place. Following their wishes, a celebration of life for both Dorothy and Les will take place this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice Quinte, or your local conservation authority, where their love of wildlife will be honored.
