Leonard’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Cox on December 31, 2022, at High Prairie Regional Hospital.
Leonard went peacefully into the night and was quite prepared to say goodbye to family and friends. He was strong of mind to the end.
Leonard was born in High Prairie Alberta on June 28, 1929. He was the fourth child of nine children born to Verna Cox. All have left us with the exception of Marlene Cox and Erna Cox. Leonard left home at a young age and worked for ranchers down South, there he cultivated some friendships that lasted the test of time. Leonard enrolled in the military and while stationed in Ontario he met his wife Betty, of 67 years, at an army dance. They maintained a courtship while she was nursing at an Ontario Hospital. Needless to say Betty followed him out to Alberta where they eventually decided to buy the family farm and settle in High Prairie . There they raised pigs & cattle and did grain farming for many years. He was never without work that provided for his family.
Leonard was survived by his wife Betty Cox. He was a father to three boys; Jim Cox, Rodney Cox, and Robert Cox, a grandfather to seven, and great grandfather to 19.
Leonard will be missed by many friends and family.
Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and caring friends who comforted us and worked to support us in these past years while we settled into this next phase of our lives. A special thanks to Kevin Cox and Nathan Cox for doing a lot of the daily work and heavy lifting.
Leonard was cremated. A spreading of his ashes will be announced at a later date.
