Peacefully at the Souris Hospital on Sunday, October 1st, 2023, Leona Theresa MacDonald (nee Bushey) passed away with her loving family by her side. Born to the late James and Mary Bushey on June 29, 1928, in Souris, PE, she was in her 96th year.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Earl MacDonald and will be forever loved by her 3 dear sons Wayne (Ann), Bert (Liz) and Paul (Darlene). Leona was a caring and compassionate gramma to Tim (Rebecca), Sarah (Jordan), Fraser (Samantha), Kara, Jacob, Emma, and great gramma to Harrison. In addition, she is survived by her siblings Jimmy (Doreen), George (Mary), Flo MacLaughlin (Leo), Bert (Merry), sister-in-law Grace Duchno, and Helen Bushey along with numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her siblings Bert Townshend (Jan), Ellen Lewis (Joe), Isabelle Pineau (Al), Harry and sister-in-law Paula Bushey.
Leona touched many lives with her ready helpfulness, cooking, and support to those in times of need. She loved to knit and donated countless mittens and hats for children in the Souris area. In her earlier years, she volunteered at the Souris Hospital Help Office, and enjoyed connecting with the community. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Rita O’Brien, Linda and Mary MacAulay, and Nora Villard, along with Dr. Bronaugh and the entire nursing staff at the Souris Hospital, Home Care, and staff at Remedy RX for the care given to their mother. The kindness and compassion shown to her will always be remembered.
Resting at Dingwell Funeral Home where visiting hours will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 4-7 pm. A funeral mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Souris, on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11:00am with interment to follow in the church cemetery. If so desired, donations in memory of Leona can be made to St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund or The Eastern Kings Health Foundation (Souris Hospital) and are appreciated by the family.
