Obituary of Leo Bartley Owens
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Leo “Bartley” Owens announces his passing on February 9th, 2023, at the Oromocto Public Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born on June 29th, 1927, in Marysville, NB, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (LaPoint) Owens, and the husband of the later Catherine (Hogan) Owens.
He is survived by his son, Leo Owens (Marilyn) of Haneytown, NB; daughters, Marilyn Acker (Barrie) of Lincoln, NB, Sharon Best, of Oromocto, NB, and Carol Chappelle (Al) of Geary, NB; brother, David Owens, of Yarmouth, NS, as well as 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bartley is predeceased by his wife, Catherine; sons, John and Thomas; brothers, Patrick and Robert; sisters, Vivian and Carrie, and his son-in-law, Keith Best.
Bartley retired in 1985 after 30 years of service with LaHave Equipment. After his retirement, he worked with Charters Settlement Construction. He also worked with Tommy Gilbert cutting poles for several years. Bartley enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Oromocto Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023, at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Fr. Charles Udeh will officiate. Interment will take place at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Building Fund.
