REXTON, NB – Léo Paul Richard 91, of
Rexton, passed away peacefully at the Villa Maria in
Saint-Louis-de-Kent on Monday, August 19, 2024. Born in
Rexton, he was the youngest son of the late Alphonse «AJ»
Richard and the late Basilice (Maillet) Richard.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first
wife, Rosalie Robichaud (2008); his partner, Alma Lewis (2011); his
brother Yvon (2017) (Margaret Leinster of Melbourne, Florida) and his
sister, Nola LeBlanc (2004)(Marcel) of Moncton.
Léo Paul was the last surviving member of his
immediate family. After finishing college in Chatham, he
returned to Rexton to help in the family business. He then enjoyed a
successful career as a salesman at Hannay’s in
Rexton. Léo Paul enjoyed long drives, was
familiar with all the back roads of Kent County and knew who
lived in every house. He took beautiful scenic photos using
only an Instamatic camera, was an avid 50+ years snowmobile
enthusiast and was a member of the local (Rexton) snowmobile
association.
He leaves behind several nieces: Christine Richard (Dennis)
of Calgary, AB, Elaine Richard (Graham Repel) of St Catherines, ON,
Jocelyne Boulet (Alain) of Manitoba, Monique McTiernan (Neil) of
Riverview, NB; a nephew Michel LeBlanc (Glenda) of Shediac,
NB, and special niece, Gisèle Fontaine of St.
Louis, NB, who cared for him and his needs in his
later years.
As per Léo Paul’s wishes, there will be
no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday,
September 5, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church
in Rexton beginning at 11:00 AM. The burial will be announced at a
later date, where he will be interred surrounded by his immediate
family.
Donations can be made to the Rexton Cemetery Fund or the
donor’s choice.
