It is with heavy hearts that the family of Leo David Cormier, announce his passing, which occurred peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday August 29, 2023 at the Oromocto Public Hospital.
Born in Dorchester, NB, on October 2, 1936 he was son of the late David and Zella (Sonier) Cormier. Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by his sister Lorraine Von Brockdorff.
In 1952, when he was 17, Leo joined the Canadian Military. He spent 32 years serving as a military engineer before moving to the private industry as a crane operator. Early in his military career, Leo was posted to a military base outside of Wickede, Germany. There he met his wife of more than 66 years Karin (Haggerman) at a local pub owned and operated by her family. Leo and Karin went on to have 3 children, son David and twin daughters Jacqueline and Nathalie.
Leo will be sadly missed by his wife Karin, his son David (Tracy), daughters Jackie and Natalie, grandchildren, Jazmine (Jes), Sasha, Deacon and great grandchildren Maleiya, Hayden, Kade and Kaia.
Leo was proud of his military career and loved to read about military history. He enjoyed walking his dogs in the woods behind his house. He was most proud to be «Bump» to his 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
At Leo’s request there will be no funeral or memorial service. When possible his immediate family will gather in remembrance and spread his ashes.
