It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to a husband, father and grandfather on Feb. 28, 2024 at the age of 86.
Époux dévoué de Donna (née Beaudoin) pendant 65 ans.
Père bien-aimé de Anne-Marie, Pauline, Richard, Jeanne Montigny (Daniel), Raymond (Michelle).
Cher Grand-papa de Justin (Vanessa), Nicolas, David, Éric et Émillie.
Predeceased by his wonderful parents Richard and Anna Bastien, and much loved by his in-laws the late Leo and Olive Beaudoin. Dear brother of the late Elizabeth Bezaire (Gerald), Antoinette Radovanov (Mike), Edward (Connie), Pat (Marguerite), Bernadette Mailloux (the late Jean), Isabelle Lauzon (Dan).
Brother-in-law of Marie De Bin (the late Anthony), Dorothy Denomme, Marilyn Rock, Dolores Beaudoin (the late Paul) as well as other deceased in-laws: Raymond Beaudoin (Maria), Theresa and Blaise Pare, Jean and John Mersch, Bernadette and Richard Faucher, Thelma Beaudoin and Nap Denomme.
He leaves many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. Leo was a retiree of the Canadian Salt Company and a lifelong farmer in the county. He was a volunteer fireman with the former Anderdon Fire Dept. for 25 years.
Leo will be remembered as a hard-working, dedicated man who loved and cared deeply for his family. He was well known for making people laugh with his witty humour. He devoted much of his time preserving the land where he toiled for many years. He was happiest with a shovel or hoe in his hands, busy tending a huge garden. He never really retired from the farm, but he helped out because he was still living on the farm where all the activity took place.
Leo was adept at inventing and “fixing” things despite his numerous disabilities. He experienced many health challenges throughout his life, and he faced them all with courage and acceptance right to the end, never losing faith in God. He was happy spending all his spare time building toys for those who had none. Leo has left a very large footprint to follow.
Visitation at Families First Funeral Home, 585 Sandwich Street South, Amherstburg (519) 969-5841, on Sunday March 3rd, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with parish prayers at 3:30 p.m. On Monday, March 4th, family and friends are invited to meet after 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, River Canard for the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
