SMITH, Lennie Robert -89, It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Lennie Smith announces his peaceful passing on April 28, 2023 at Bayside Home, surrounded by his loving family. Lennie was born on November 23, 1933, in Centreville to the late Samuel and Julia (Ross) Smith and was one of 19 children. He was a beloved member of his community and cherished by his family. When he was 18 years old, Lennie started traveling from Cape Sable Island by ferry to meet with the love of his life, Reta. They eventually settled in Woods Harbour where they worked and raised their six children. Lennie enjoyed a full life as a fisherman and lobster buyer, and he delighted in the simple pleasures of life, such as recreational hunting and fishing, often in the company of his son, son-in-law’s and grandsons. Lennie spent much of his youth at his cottage in Clyde River with his family and friends, where the Blue Jays were always on the television. He was always up for a game of bid whist and enjoyed his morning trips to Tim Hortons with his late brother, Donnie. Lennie is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Reta (Nickerson); his sister Madeline Smith; and his children, Laura (Howard) Ross, Jeanie Smith (Ronnie), Bobby (Marlene) Smith, Julia (Ralph) Jones, and Jennifer (Richard) Cormier. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Richard, Sherry, Tania, Linda, Jordon, Cory, Shannon, Matthew, Jenna, Jasmine; as well as 15 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Lennie is predeceased by his daughter Linda; several brothers and sisters; and in-laws. We will forever cherish all of the wonderful memories of our Papa, and he will be deeply missed every day. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Bayside Home for their exceptional care of their loved one. There will be a memorial service held Tuesday, May 2, at 2 p.m. at the H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, with Pastor Jason Parker officiating. It has been requested that there be family flowers only, and donations can be made in Lennie’s name to the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund.
