Leland Leander was born on January 27, 1930, in Georgetown, Guyana to the late Felix and Lenora Leander. He attended private and public school, getting promoted to scholarship class then graduating from high school. While waiting for the senior Cambridge entrance results he started working as a copy editor for the editorial department for the Daily Argosy Newspaper, then later working for the Daily Chronicle Newspaper. Leland has many talents, performing in plays by William Shakespeare and others, receiving many awards and recommendations for these performances. He was a chorister in the Cathedral Choir at St. Georges Anglican church (one of the tallest wooden churches in the world) and performed as a soloist from a child until his last performance at his 90th birthday.
Leland met the love of his life at the Cathedral where she was a Sunday School teacher, and they later married in 1957. Leland and Yvonne immigrated to London, England, welcoming their daughters Leila and Lilian. Leland was employed with British Rail until he moved to Canada in 1970 where he became employed by CN Railway, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. Leland’s talents extended from his artistic abilities of painting and drawing to his ability to repair cars, bicycles and electronics. Leland loved all types of music and he provided the music as a performer, dancer or as a DJ for many occasions. He shared this love for music with his wife, daughters, his many nieces, and nephews, and with all of his grandchildren.

His calm demeanor, faithfulness and dedication is something that built a strong sense of family at every occasion and for those who were privileged to be around him.
