Leigh’s Obituary
Mackintosh, Lawrence Leigh – 76, Cole Harbour, Halifax Regional Municipality, died in the Palliative Care Unit of the Dartmouth General Hospital on Sunday, April 28th, 2024, which was his 76th birthday. Leigh was born in Oxford in 1948, the first born son of Gerald and Anita (Agnew) Mackintosh of Oxford. Like his brothers, and sisters after him, Leigh went to work young, working at the family business, Mackintosh Hardware, after school and on weekends. He graduated from Oxford Regional High School in the class of 1966 and after a brief stint on a CNR work crew, joined the RCAF in 1967. During his 26 year military career he enjoyed postings to CFS Corp, Ont.; CFB Chatham, NB; Lahr, Garmany; CFB Shearwater and finally CFB Gagetown, NB, where he retired in 1993. After retiring from the military, Leigh went to work for the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires at the Dockyard, Halifax, and then at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO). After retiring at BIO, Leigh spent his time touring the Maritimes with Therese, his wife of 45 years, and playing bridge and cribbage in Cole Harbour. Leigh was a very quiet and private person who, rather than a large group of acquaintances, preferred a small group of close friends. Leigh is survived by his wife, Therese; sister, Valerie; brothers, Randy and Ian (Cheryl); many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-niece and cousins. He is predeceased by both parents; sister-in-law, Patricia; grand-niece, Taylor Lynne. We would like to also express our profound appreciation to his wonderful neighbours. Also his family would like to thank the staff of the Emergency Department, the 3rd floor and Palliative Care Unit of Dartmouth General Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion. Leigh’s family would like to invite those who knew him to attend a Celebration of Life gathering from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 5 at MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford.
