Lee Raskin
Passed away in hospital following a sudden decline in health. Lee was born in Calgary, July 15,1928, the son of the late Aaron and Sarah Raskin. He was blessed with loving siblings, Bessie and Jack. When it was time for university for Jack and Lee, the family moved to Edmonton. Lee graduated as an Electrical Engineer from University of Alberta in 1950, and soon went to work for Alberta Telephone upon graduation. From there, Alberta Tel sent him to Quebec in 1952, a move that proved to be momentous, as he met the love of his life, Roslyn Spiegel, shortly thereafter. Roz and Lee were married in September of 1955, enjoying a long and loving marriage of 67 plus years until 11 months ago, with her passing. Taking a job in Ottawa, Lee put in many decades of public service, both in DnD and DSS. During his tenure with the Federal Government, he achieved the rank of Deputy Director. His contributions to the Crown were immeasurable. Lee was also committed to community service. He was extremely active in B’nai Brith Canada, becoming a chapter president and ultimately a Governor for Canadian Bnai Brith on the International level. He was fiercely loyal and loving to his family, who will ever be grateful for, and inspired by, his work ethic, overall integrity, wit, and wisdom. Dad was always there to offer just the right amount of encouragement and support in all our endeavors. He was truly the rock in all of our lives, and will be lovingly remembered by his children Ian, Brian(Lisa), Steven and predeceased by his daughter Lori. He will be greatly missed by his loving grandchildren, Robbie (Melissa), Sammy, and Adam, Cori, Casey, Sebastian and predeceased by grandson Noah. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 at 12 noon at Jewish Memorial Gardens, 2692 Bank Street, Ottawa, Ontario. Shiva will be observed at Lee’s home, 15 Peregrine Crescent, Ottawa, Sunday to Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hulse, Playfair & McGarry.
