Obituary
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Psalm 23:6
Leah was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and lived in Winnipeg, MB and Ottawa, ON while growing up. Her adult years were spent in Vancouver, BC and later settling in Thompson, MB. From a very young age, strong values around education, work and family were centered around faith and spirituality. These are values she lived by sharing with her loved ones and passed onto her daughters whom she loved and was extremely proud of. Leah had a passion for her career and embraced her professional roles with love and respect for her people and working with and for First Nation communities. She enjoyed art, music, dancing and had a deep love of learning new things and travelling and learning about new cultures. While living in Thompson, Leah’s favorite hobby was to go fishing and she spent a lot of her free time looking for fishing spots and enjoying her time near the water and on the land.
Leah is survived by her pride and joy, her three beautiful daughters Lauressa Sage, Alexis Nicole and Tamaya Raine Jasmine. She also leaves her memory with her father Emile Garson, brother Michael Garson, niece Cezyn, nephews Gabriel and Lestat, special friends who she considered sisters Delores Daniels, Tara Petti, Tracy Lavallee and Zalia Kenerson, special friend Alvin Murdock as well as many family members and friends from Ottawa, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Thompson, Tataskweyak Cree Nation and Sioux Valley Dakota Nation.
In heaven she will be lovingly welcomed by her mother Brenda Eaglehunt, sister Melody Manuel, brother Derek Garson as well as her paternal grandparents Hilda and Johnny Garson and maternal grandparents Patrick and Nora Hart, Evelyn Wasicuna and Reginald Blacksmith and many other family member and friends, including her youngest daughter’s father, Greg Tait.
We invite friends and family to join us as we remember her and celebrate her life on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Aboriginal Funeral Chapel, 724 Selkirk Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. Interment will be at Sioux Valley Dakota Nation at on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. where she will be laid to rest beside her mother.
Pallbearers are Emile Garson, Robert Garson, Michael Garson, Alvin Murdock, Wayne Lalman and Tony Kenerson
They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; the shall mount up with wings as eagles, they will run and not be weary; they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
