Lawrence Hudson Mothersell
Born in Hamilton, Ontario where he spent his formative years with his mother, the late Violet (nee Lawrence) father and one sibling. Many delightful Summers were spent in Pike Bay with his Aunt Dorothy & Uncle Warren Lawrence with whom he shared a familial and mischievous sense of humour! It is here where his mechanical, technical and mathematical mind was nurtured.
In 1951 life changed when he was introduced to Judith Jorgensen-smart, beautiful, tall, elegant and from Toronto. They were smitten at first sight! A perfect match, they spent their time boating in Cootes Paradise, with many an evening dancing at the Alexandra Rink. They married on August 01, 1953. A deeply devoted and joyful partnership that flourished for more than 70 years.

O no, it is an ever-fixèd mark

He was a proud father to his daughters Susan (Duff) Colden, New York, Mary Ann (James) Toronto, and Jane (David) Owen Sound. He imparted kindness, wisdom, and pragmatism. He kept us organized and reminded us of the essentials in life: “if you get in the habit of putting things in the same place, you won’t lose them.” He shared his love of Bruce County with us and gave us the opportunity to spend our own delightful Summers in Southampton. It is here where we made many memories, and where he retired with Judith in 1996 from a long and successful career with CUMIS. Their home an anchor that allowed for many years of international travels where new memories and friendships were forged.
He was a proud Grandfather, and he loved his grandchildren: Martine (Sam) and Ash (Harley Aphrodite), he was lucky to be a great-grand father to Declan. He happily accepted the moniker of “Pope” to Nephew Mark, and enjoyed the company of Byrne; Pat, Bobby, Michael and Joanna.
Principled, methodical, mischievous and always verbally precise-he had an exceptional mind that kept us in awe. He loved reading, Sudoko, Crosswords and was intellectually curious about every topic under the Sun-including the Sun. A critical and creative thinker-he made our lives richer, and we are thankful for his presence.
He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Eagleson Funeral Home, Southampton.
