It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laurier Tranchemontagne surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 11th, 2024 at Cornwall Hospice. Beloved husband for 58 years of Linda Tranchemontagne (née Villeneuve). Loving father and “Best Dad “of Pascale Cherry (Stefan) and Jori Tranchemontagne (Melanie Nolan). Cherished grandfather of Elijah and Malaika. Dear brother of Gerry Lemire (Pat). He is predeceased by is parents Laurent Tranchemontagne and Sylvia Lemire (née Leclerc) and by his siblings Clement Tranchemontagne (Nancy), Lorraine Marion (late Bert), Claire Ringuet (late Rene) and Roger Lemire (Louis).
A graduate of the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Commerce, Laurier’s adventurous spirit and readiness for a hearty laugh made him a magnetic presence. He was known for his outrageous costumes and joyful antics, especially when in the company of his adoring grandchildren, his wife and his children —and he brought light and levity into every room.
“Laur” was equally kind and gentle, steadfast in making sure others were cared for. Empathy and selflessness were his trademarks.
As a dedicated and compassionate educator at General Vanier and St. Lawrence, Laurier’s genuine love for his students was unmistakable, and the feeling was reciprocal. He wasn’t just a teacher. He was a mentor, a coach, and often a friend. Outside the classroom, his passion for hockey and prowess as an athlete forged camaraderie and lifelong friendships with his teammates, The Hubs.
Laur always surrounded himself with family, friends, and fun, showing us all the essence of a life well-lived. His loving presence and his joie-de-vivre are already deeply missed.
The family of Laurier warmly invites all family and friends to gather for a time of visitation and remembrance at Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall, ON (613-938-3888) on Monday, December 16th, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will take place on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024 at St. Peter’s Church, 2900 Second St E, Cornwall, ON, at 11 a.m.
Laurier’s family cordially invites everyone to gather at the RCAF, 240 Water St W, Cornwall, ON following the funeral.
As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to the Parkinson Canada or to Cornwall Hospice would be appreciated.
